Durham Lookup Requests / Houghton Bank, Heighington help
« on: Friday 26 January 18 12:44 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anybody can help.

I know my family were living in the Heighington area in the early 1800s, but I'm trying to pin down where either exactly or certainly close by. I know from a press report about my Greatx4 grandfather (Thomas Prest) that they were living in 'Haughton Bank', which is presumably Houghton Bank, in 1817.

They suffered a burglary at their house while they were out in the fields and the press report only mentions 'Haughton Bank', no specific address. This is obviously pre-census, so are there any places/documents online that I could search that might help pin down the location??

A long shot I know!

Hi There - I wonder if anybody can help! I'm struggling to identify the burial location of my GG Grandfather, David Bryce Tod.

He died in Aberlady on 14 March 1919. While some of his relatives are buried in Aberlady Church there is no sign of David. I thought he might also be buried in Haddington but I can't see him listed in the burial plots at St Marys. I did wonder if he was buried at St John's in Haddington (his father David Bryce was the architect, and designed this church), but from what I can see (on google) there are no burial plots.

I know place of death doesn't necessary mean that they would also be buried there, but I'm drawing a bit of a blank! Some family members appear to have been buried in the fathers plot in Edinburgh, but not David Bryce-Tod.

Any help, pointers, suggested resources to check out would be gratefully appreciated!!

Best, Richard

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with Death Certificate
« on: Saturday 22 October 16 13:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Can anybody help with some text on a death certificate (pic attached). I'm trying to identify whether the person of the death certificate is part of my family, and there is another name of the person present at the time of his death, but I can't work out what it says!

I can read "the xxxxxxxxxx of Rachel Prest. Present at death"

Can anybody help?

Thank you in advance!
