Essex Lookup Requests / Jessie Chaplin 1876 St Osyth
« on: Tuesday 30 October 12 23:51 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone could look up the baptism of Jessie Chaplin born end of 1876 in St Osyth.
She appears in the 1891 and 1881 census with, what appears to be her mother Mahala.
Now, the problem is, she was born 2 years after her 'father' died. so, she could be illegitimate or, a grand daughter of Mahala.
The plot thickens. I am asking for a friend who is off to Spain on the 11th and wont be able to order a birth certificate to get here in time.
Any help greatly appreciated as he may just explode with curiosity.

World War One / Getting very confused about Naval Records
« on: Tuesday 20 September 11 16:37 BST (UK)  »
I have in my possession, a letter dated 1967 that has been passed on to me by a family member, it is  from The Ministry of Defence regarding my Maternal Grandfather.
It gives what looks like his WW1 Naval record number but I am unable to make head or tail of the National Archives search facilities.
I am afraid I am a bit of a technophobe. I have tried searching but have had no luck. He obviously served in the Royal Navy but N.A seem not to have any records nor do Findmypast , so I would presume I am doing something very wrong in my searches.
Would it be ok to post it on here ?, it has a fair bit of information on it and he died in 1944 .

Northumberland / Hans Loveig Hansen marriage 1880 Tynemouth
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 22:50 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the marriage of Hans Loveig Hansen and Elizabeth (Betsy) Peter(s). They are my husbands Gt Gt Grandparents.
I have found them on the census's as William and Betsy Hansen. They moved from Northsheilds to Great Yarmouth .
William (aka Hans) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and , that's where I have hit a wall.
In 1881 they were living in Upper Toll Street Tynemouth with Betsy's parents.
Has anyone any more info on this marriage ??. I think it's them , married 1880 Tynemouth 10b 288 but find it strange that the the first name is so different .
Hoping not to have to buy a cert , but afraid that is the only way forward.
Many Thanks for reading

Could anyone let me know if Family tree maker 2005 and 2006 are compatable with Windows vista.

Have the 2008 version but I am not at all happy with it as the tree formats charts are so limited.

Hi
Have been hunting round the internet trying to find a programme that will enable me to do an All in One tree with everyone on it.
I used to use Family Tree maker 2005 with great suscess. Unfortunately, I have mislaid the disc to it and when we got a new computer(after being off line for a year) ,we decided to put the Family Tree Maker 2008 in .
It has been a bit of a learning curve and I don't find it as user freindly as the old one. what's worse is I cannot print an All in One tree on it. which is a nuisance as I liked to see all the siblings ect on it.
Anyone got any suggestions for buying a new tree maker programme that has the All in One facility.
Of course, it could be that my 2008 programme has this facilty in it but me being a bit of a technophobe , haven't found it.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hertfordshire / Sawbridgeworth schools around 1930
« on: Friday 20 November 09 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
This is one of those 'Long Shots' that you know you will never crack ,but, if you don't try ,you'll never rest.
I am doing my best friends family tree for them. After all the help she has given me over the years ,this is just a small Thank You to her.

I am trying to find out if anyone in Sawbridgeworth remembers the Wiggins family from London. One of the boys names was Bertram and he told his family of the time He lived(possibly on a farm) in Sawbridgeworth and went to a local school there. All I know is it was a Farm Type school who catered for all ages. it would appear to be a small school with all ages in the class.

Bertram born 1923 had brothers Arthur b 1916 and George b 1919.Sisters Lillian and Rosina. They would have been in sawbridgeworth around 1928 -1940. Their father had Contractors business in Dalston London. The family moved to essex around 1940.

If anyone knows of the Wiggins family ,or has any suggestions as to what school it was , it would be really helpful .Especially as the family would love to know more about the area.
Many Thanks

Fife / Buckhaven Marriage ,Hansen
« on: Wednesday 04 March 09 11:20 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to demolish a brick wall. Can anyone help by finding a marriage between William Hansen and Elizabeth c 1878-1880.
I have no idea what Elizabeths maiden name is and would love to find out who she was.
William and Elizabeth (Betsy) moved to Northshields before 1881.I do know William came from Denmark and was a fisherman. The family ended up in Great Yarmouth .So ties in with fishing ports.
Elizabeth says in census's that she was born in Buckhaven .I have searched the England marriage indexes ,to no avail ,and can only presume she married in Buckhaven.
Any help really appreciated.
