Family History Beginners Board / PATRICK McCARDLE born Sunderland Q4, 1864
« on: Monday 08 November 21 13:18 GMT (UK)  »
Help needed please.
I'm trying to trace information for this gentleman for an elderly neighbour who is Patricks grandson.
The 1911 and 1901 census' for Sunderland shown his dob as 1864 in Sunderland, married to MARY JANE (GRAY) born 1867 and their children. I have found a birth transcription showing a Patrick McARDLE being born at the right time and place. I have been unable to find any census information from 1871 to 1891 which would provide his sibling and parents. Any links to this info would be greatly appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / ROBERT WILLIAM GARROD (b 27/02/1861, Sunderland)
« on: Tuesday 27 April 21 21:14 BST (UK)  »
Evening all.
Looking to find the mother of ROBERT WILLIAM GARROD (1861) and his sister JANE (1860).
I am of the opinion his father ROBERT (named on his marriage certificate) remarried LYDIA WELCH in 1866 after the death of his first wife. An 1871 census for Church Street, Sunderland names all children for Robert, his 1st wife? and Lydia. A 1891 census shows Robert Snr, Robert William and Jane
all related and living in the same street in Sunderland. Family tradition would point at JANE being the mothers Christian name but this is a guess. Any help would be appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / John Nicholson ATKINSON (b 1821)
« on: Sunday 25 April 21 21:42 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me please.
Trying to find the surname of my 3xGreat Grandmother who was the mother of John Nicholson Atkinson (born c1821). On his baptism transcription she is named as Deborah. I believe she was the first wife of John Atkinson (born c1796) and was either divorced or died after the birth of John Nicholson Atkinson in 1821 and before the birth of his first child (also called John) to his second wife Hannah Rodham in 1826 when living at 166 Gilesgate, Durham. Given the dates I would be pleasantly surprised if any information is available. If I were to hazard a guess I would say "Nicholson" as it seems to be a family tradition to give some of the children their mothers maiden name as a middle name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Family History Beginners Board / DAVID DOWNS LITTLE (born July 1903) in SUNDERLAND
« on: Wednesday 05 February 20 22:47 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all
Any information regarding the parents and wife of David Downs Little would be helpful and give me a good start on my tree.
I think his father's wife may have married twice, the 2nd time to someone called Shaw, and they had a son called Norman. The branch on my tree is through his 1st wife.
David Downs Little married Hannah Wilkinson in 1937.

Can anyone help me please.
Trying to find the parents of my 2xGreat Grandfather JOSEPH ATKINSON (born 1865, possibly in Liverpool). If i am right he had a brother called John S Atkinson (family tradition suggests the "S" may relate to a mother's or grandmother's surname).
Appreciate any help in this branch of my tree.

Family History Beginners Board / William BRIGHAM b 07/12/1897 in SUNDERLAND
« on: Wednesday 01 February 17 22:33 GMT (UK)  »
Looking to trace WILLIAM BRIGHAM'S father (possibly JAMES born in Berwick), mother (possibly MARY ANN SCOTT born in Newcastle ) and his grandparents.

Information found to date :

1911 census (2 Simpson Street, Sunderland) living with his wife MARY ANN and their family

1901 census (as 1911)

1891 census - 99% sure (Palmerston Street, Westoe, South Shields) boarding with Elizabeth Taylor and her mother Jane. Too much of a coincidence to think this is not the same person as WILLIAM and MARY ANN's eldest daughter was named Elizabeth Jane.

It seems to me that WILLIAM moved south from Berwick to South Shields because of his work (the glass making industry is a common link on all 3 census') or maybe his parents had died and he went to live with relatives.

Family members feel he is linked to the Holy Island Brighams who had a shop or public house on the island.

Any help with the 1881 and prior census' when he would be living with his parents would be very helpful.

Scotland / ELLEAN, ALICE or ELEANOR COLVIN born c1834? in SCOTLAND
« on: Tuesday 15 March 16 18:57 GMT (UK)  »
Searching for info on my 3xG Grandmother.
I initially thought ELLEAN,  as shown on an 1861 census in Sunderland (Nesham Square) could be the wife of my 3xG Grandfather WILLIAM WEBSTER (born HULL). I have found a marriage transcription dated 1858 on which her Christian name could be ELEANOR. Also traced their granddaughter ELLEN COLVIN WEBSTER (b 1904 Sunderland) to establish a link between the generations. Another census (1871) shows ALICE as a potential name. Are they all the same person?
Can anyone confirm the correct details for her please.
Many thanks

Searching for the children of CHARLES, who I think married MARGARET ............ (b c1879).
Found Jessie (c1897) and Archibald (c1900). Another of his children ?? (possibly also called CHARLES born around 1901) may have married ELEANOR ADAMSON in 1921.
Another option could well be that CHARLES (1871) started a second family at the age of 50 having moved to SUNDERLAND and married ELEANOR ADAMSON. Then, as seen on the recently released 1939 register, to an ELEANOR BROWN.
Any information greatly appreciated.
