Lancashire Lookup Requests / Look up request 1871 Census
« on: Monday 11 January 21 00:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi  looking for help to find my Great G grandfather and family on the 1871 census as I am having no joy.  This is what I know:

William Knapper (1830 Kidsgrove) married Jane Jackson (1839 Ireland) some time in 1865  possibly in Hanley Stafford
According to the 1881 census  they had two children there, Mary (1866) and Christina (1867) before moving to Manchester where the rest of the family were born Jane (1874)  and James Joseph (1878).

And if he could be found on the 1861 (age 30) census that would also be brilliant however, William as far as I can see is not the offspring of George Knapper and Sarah Garter although this seems to be a common mistake on Ancestry.co.uk because there are so many Knapper's in Staffordshire

Hoping you can help and thanks in advance

United States of America / Jane Elizabeth Fargo Daughter (?) of Mortimer Fargo
« on: Friday 26 June 20 14:22 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find how Jane Elizabeth became the daughter of Mortimer Fargo.
What I have found out is Mary McDonnell when to New York in May 1900 and in November 1929 completed the New York, State and Federal Naturalization Record stating her name is Jane Elizabeth Fargo, This helped me find her on the 1920's census showing her as Mortimer's Daughter. I know Mortimer died in 1921 and Jane kept the name.  The last record I have for her is the 1930 Census. If she was adopted would there be a record & where would I look?  There was an regular allowance sent home to Mayo so I am also looking for a death date or copy of the will if there was one.  Any help welcomed. Thanks

World War One / "Mentioned" in Sir D. Haig's Desptaches 1918 Feeling frustrated
« on: Wednesday 01 February 17 01:42 GMT (UK)  »
I have just discovered my Grandmother was mentioned in the above dispatch but can only find two dispatches from Sir D Haig in 1918 and cannot find her name I have also tried the London Gazette for her name to no avail.  I don't thinks she was given any award or medal as we have never heard of  this until now when I accessed a record on the British Red Cross site.  Is there an easy way to find where she is mentioned?

Her details are Mary Agnes Josephine McCarthy, Born 1883 (died Jan 1968) in Dublin Ireland.  Joined  in 1915.  She was the Matron in Charge in the the St Johns Ambulance Brigade Hospital Etaples, France in 1917 when Queen Mary visited it and when it was bombed in May 1918

Thanks in advance

I can trace Samuel Brierley of Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire. from the time of his marraige to the present day but was wonder how I can find his mother and Father.

Samuel BRIERLEY was born around 1719 possibly in Pendleton Manchester, or it may have been called Brindle Heath.  There is also a Samuel Brierley of Oldham who is not related as far as i can see although their children do share similar names and dates of birth.

Samuel married Anne Burgess on the 9th January 1744 in Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George church, but I can not find any mention of their parents.

Samuel died in 1811 at the age of 92.  he was involved in the cotten trade and seem to have done very well for himself.  He also cofunded a church in Pendleton which is well documented.

Are there any records that would be available for me to search to go back the next few generations?  Thanks in advance
