Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / William Roberts - Rhymney
« on: Thursday 26 August 10 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for the origins of William Roberts born ca. 1824, who married Eleanor Michael in St George's Church, Parish of Bedwelty (I'm assuming this is the church in Tredegar?), in November 1851.

They had 2 daughters Eleanor and Ann and lived at Twyn Carno in Rhymney, with Eleanor running a local shop. Then William died in March 1860 aged 36.

William is a Collier and his father, also William Roberts, is a Joiner (according to his son's marriage certificate).

Eleanor Michael is from Cilgerran in Pembrokeshire, but I've no idea where William is from.  Eleanor is already lodging in Rhymney on the 1851 census, so why would they get married at St George's?

Any ideas anyone?

Monmouthshire / Harcourt Place in Rhymney
« on: Monday 23 November 09 21:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
Does anyone out there know anything about Harcourt Place in Rhymney, for example when it was built etc?
I have found a photo amongst some other family photos (all dated about 1915 or so) of a man called Thomas Williams with the address 2 Harcourt Place written on the reverse.
It is likely he is a relative but I can't work out how - he is an older man in the picture, could be aged anything from mid-40s to mid-70s really.
Unfortunately I don't have the photo to scan as it belongs to another family member.

I couldn't find the street on any census - does anyone know different?

Thanks
Helen

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Jones in Rhymney
« on: Tuesday 20 October 09 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I have a copy of the parish register which shows the baptism of my ancestor Thomas Jones in March 1850.

His parents are David and Elizabeth Jones of Tredegar Row in Rhymney.

I have some information that suggests he has siblings Elizabeth, William and perhaps David also.
However I cannot find them on the census in 1851 or 1861.

Can anyone help?

Thanks  :)

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Marriage at Walsall 1834 - Price and Saint
« on: Friday 14 September 07 10:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I have finally found the marriage date and place, thanks to a fellow rootschatter on the Derbyshire board, of John Price and Sarah Saint.  It is on 18 May 1834 in Walsall Staffordshire.

I've checked on IGI and there do not appear to be any marriage records for Walsall for that period - does anyone have any access to marriage records for Walsall for that date, who could find out if there are any more details about the marriage (eg witnesses etc)?

Many thanks
Helen

The Common Room / Where should I look next?
« on: Wednesday 12 September 07 13:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I am searching for my gt-gt-gt-grandmother Sarah SAINT with no luck so far.  She is born between 1809 and 1819 (according to which census you read  :)) and is from Worcestershire/Staffordshire (either Dudley or Wednesbury) until 1881 when she is suddenly from Ripley in Derbyshire  ???

Her maiden name of SAINT appears on her son's birth certificate (it was difficult to read but the register office has confirmed the name), but I can find no marriage for her to her husband John PRICE in either Staffordshire, Worcestershire or Derbyshire.

The family are in Dudley or Oldbury until mid 1850s when they move to South Wales and from then on all is fine - I've found their gravestones etc and have the death certificates, I just have no info on where they were born or where they married, why (if she was from Ripley) did she end up in Dudley after her marriage etc.

To all you experienced researchers, please could you give me some suggestions on where to look next (I've tried the IGI and no luck - even assuming that she got married before she married John Price has yielded nothing...)

Thanks
Helen

Worcestershire / Anyone with access to records of St Thomas, Dudley?
« on: Thursday 23 August 07 11:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I'm still on the chase for the origins of my elusive gt-gt-gt-grandmother Sarah Saint who married John Price and settled in the Dudley/Oldbury area, before moving to Wales mid 1850s.  Having seen her gravestone, I'm keener than ever to track down who she is and where her family came from.

I cannot find a potential marriage (would've been mid-1830s or so) but I am asking if someone has access to the marriage records of St Thomas in Dudley as there is a marriage between John Price and Sarah Horton on 12/9/1831 on IGI and I'm curious, as I have found a Sarah Saint born in Horton, Staffordshire and wonder if the transcription is correct...

I'm going down any avenue,  however blind, at the moment...

Hope someone can help  :)

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1851 census lookup please - William SAINT
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 12:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
As part of my so far fruitless search for Sarah SAINT born either in Worcestershire/Staffordshire or Derbyshire between 1803 and 1816, I think I might've found someone who might be a brother - William SAINT, as his son James is resident with Sarah (married name Price) in South Wales at the 1871 census.

He marries Naomi Forrest in 1838 in Tipton and I've found them and family on 1841 and 1861 census, but no luck in 1851.  The children are Elizabeth b. 1839 and James b. 1848, but probably more inbetween.  Naomi is a widow by 1871.

William is a miner and Naomi is a nailmaker (whose occupation is another link to Sarah Saint).

I also cannot find a credible christening for William.

I would appreciate any help on the Saint family of Tipton/Dudley/Wednesbury/Rowley Regis areas.

Thanks
Helen

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Marriage lookup please - SAINT
« on: Monday 20 August 07 13:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I'm looking for a marriage between Sarah SAINT born ca 1812 in Duffield or Ripley and a John Price born ca 1807 in Worcestershire.  I've looked for their marriage in Worcestershire (where they lived until mid-1850s) but no luck.  Now I have info that Sarah was actually born in  Derbyshire, so it would be great if I could find their marriage in this county too.
Their first son is born in 1838, so the marriage is likely between 1830 and 1838 or so.

Hope someone can help  :)
