Hello,

can any one help with the name and occupation please?

The name given in the transcription is Mary* Sullcirge but I don't know why it's marked * and I'm not sure the last name is correct.

Thanks
Ian

Norfolk / Clarke family in Bradenham 1870 ~ 1900
« on: Tuesday 18 July 17 22:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking into the family of William Clarke b.1882 in West Bradenham.

GRO have a Willie Clarke born in 1882 with mothers maiden name of Pack. I've not ordered the birth certificate yet.

I found the marriage of Henry Clarke (bachelor) and Sarah Pack (spinster) in April 1872. Sara's father is listed as Robert Pack, no problem there, but Henry's father is listed as Joseph Hart which seems confusing to me. What are the likely reasons for this?

In the 1881 census Henry and Sarah Clarke are together 'In the street, East Bradenham' but their children have the surname Pack.

In the 1891 census Henry and Sarah Clarke are together at 'Cottage, Street, West Bradenham' with 3 of the 5 children that they had in the earlier census, but they now all have the surname Clarke.

Is it common for children to change surname like this?

Ian.

« on: Sunday 20 November 16 17:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help identify the name of the witnesses on this marriage certificate please?

The marriage is Walter Thomas Hoolhouse and Clara Halls in 1873. I am particularly interested in the surname of the second witness.

Thanks
Ian.

The Common Room / Help looking for Charles Maurice Terry
« on: Thursday 04 February 16 22:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

not sure where I should post this request, I am stuck and don't know where to look next.

I am looking for Charles Maurice Terry who is listed as father of Harry Charles Cooper Terry on his marriage certificate. The marriage was in Ashford, Kent in October 1901. The certificate lists Charles's occupation as 'engine driver'

Harry was living in Chatham at the time.

So far I have not been able to find him on any census. There are a lot of Terrys to choose from :-(

Any suggestions on where to look next would be greatly appreciated.

Ian.

Hello,

this photo is possibly of William and Louisa Parker and two of their children.

Can any one help date it?

Do you think the child on the mothers knee a boy or girl?

I would love to see improvements too.

Thanks
Ian.

Family History Beginners Board / Common surnames before marriage
« on: Friday 22 January 16 21:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

how common is it to find the same surname for both bride and groom before they are married?

So far I have Terry marrying Terry, and if I am not mistaken Austen marrying Austen.

Family History Beginners Board / Access to surname interest
« on: Friday 22 January 16 12:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm new here and trying to use the Surname Interests Table to find others who have a shared interest. However I am unable to see 'others with my interests' as I need access to the 'PM' system which I get after posting two messages on the forum.

I have already posted 7 of 8 messages on the forums, and appear to have access to the 'PM' system -  I was able to sent a 'PM' to myself just now.

Am I missing something here, how do I gain access to the SIT?

Thanks in advance
Ian.
