Family History Beginners Board / Saville Family Census Record and a question
« on: Monday 15 January 18 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking for a Sarah and Joseph Saville.  My grandmother was the daughter of Mary ann Saville, who had a sister Emma.  This is fact.  A Sarah Saville came to the US roughly around 1885/1886 with a Polly and Emma.  This is fact.  With the help of various people and websites I have discovered a Sarah and Joseph in the census records, once in 1871 and 1881.  In this record they have a daughter Mary Ann and Emma.  They also list many other children.  I am trying to pin down if this might be my Sarah.  I cannot find any other listing for any of the other children.  Not one.  Can anyone tell me why the only information I can find on this couple are two census records and NOTHING else.  No births, no deaths.  I know they could not have vanished into thin air.  Some ideas?  There is a William, Edward and John listed in the 1881 census that I think are Sarah and Joseph's additional children.  In 1871 there is a Ruth, Hannah, Joseph and Christopher along with William, Edward, John and Mary Ann.  The first four may not all be Sarah's.  Thoughts?  Thanks

Lancashire / Saville Family
« on: Monday 25 January 16 00:48 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings!  I am trying to locate family from England.  My names are Hadfield and Saville.  They come from the Ashton under Lyne area.  Hadfields from Stalybridge and the Savilles from Lancashire.  I found a listing for a Joseph and Sarah Saville that has me curious.  Here is what I know.  My grandmother Helen, was the daughter of Mary Ann Saville, who according to records, was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Hodgson) Saville.  Sarah came to America with two daughters, Polly (Mary Ann) and Emma.  But the census listing I found in the English records, shows a Joseph and Sarah with daughters Mary Ann and Emma, at about the right ages.  But it also shows a lot of other children.  Not sure why she would come to America with only two children, but now I am trying to find out if this is my Joseph and Sarah.  How to I find Joseph?  I think he died in England and is buried in Lancashire.  His last child, Emma, was born in 1876 in Audenshaw.  Where do I go from here?  Also, I find very little on a Joseph married to a Sarah Hodgson.  Thanks for any suggestions.
