Shetland / Deciphering marriage record 1800 Delting
« on: Sunday 29 May 22 00:52 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to decipher a marriage record for Andrew Arthur and Margrat Herison who married in December 1800 in Delting but the word I am having trouble with is the word before Proclamation starting with a capital D which looks like Dew. Nearly all the marriage records on this page have the same word  before Proclamation and what does it mean?

Stirlingshire / Looking for burial - Catherine Russell died Bonnybridge Falkirk 1873
« on: Tuesday 03 September 19 06:17 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a burial of Catherine Russell who died in 1873 at Bonnybridge, Falkirk. Catherine was the 2nd wife of John Russell who died sometime after the 1851 Census aged around 90 yrs (no death reg can be found).  John Russell and his family had been living at Bonnybridge since before the 1841 census. I am hoping that Catherine was buried with her husband.

Stirlingshire / Marion Wilson b 1846 Falkirk, Stirlingshire
« on: Tuesday 26 April 16 01:41 BST (UK)  »
In the 1861 Scotland Census (Holytown, Bothwell, Lanark) Marion Wilson was recorded as a Niece living in the household of Robert A Russell (Head) and Marion Russell (Mother) but her birthplace was recorded as Falkirk, Stirling. In Ancestry her surname was transcribed as KILSON but in FamilySearch it has been transcribed as WILSON.

I have had no luck in trying to find out where she fits in the family. On Marion Russell's Death Registration her mother's maiden name was recorded as NELSON.

I am looking for the burial of a John Flanagan who was a solicitor who practised in the Kyneton and Castlemaine area, who might have died around 1863. His wife Catherine died in 1868 in Daylesford and was buried at Deep Creek.  I recently found a Silver Wedding Anniversary notice for their daughter Mary, who had married a William de Renzi McCausland in Daylesford on 28 December 1868, which was advertised in The Argus on 29 December 1893 and I think that John Flanagan might have predeceased his wife Catherine.

Antrim / Hugh SEMPEY and Isabella HOUSTON, Ballyclare
« on: Monday 17 March 14 04:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to find out when Hugh and his wife Isabella died but I think their surname has been mistranscribed.  In Ancestry Hugh's surname in the Marriage Registration was transcribed as LAMPEY and LAMPIE. In the 1911 Census Hugh SEMPEY, wife Isabella and surviving children were living at Wilson's Row, Ballyclare, Ballynure. Have searched the PRONI Will Calendars and there are no LAMPEY/LAMPIE/SEMPEY/SEMPY/SAMPY at all, only a Thomas SAMPEY.

Isabella HOUSTON was born in 1865 in Galgorm and Hugh SEMPEY born around 1857 in Ireland.

Would be grateful for some help here.

Australia / KENNELLY, Bridget - immigrant from Tipperary, Ireland
« on: Saturday 09 June 12 04:36 BST (UK)  »
Bridget is my great great grandmother and although her husband was Patrick Kinna no marriage registration has ever been found. We know quite a lot about the Kinna family but nothing Bridget. Her eldest surviving son Austin KINNA is supposed to have been born in South Australia and again no birth has ever been found either in SA, NSW or anywhere else.   Haven't even been able to find a passenger list that fits the timeline.

Bridget was supposed to have been quite literate and loved reading to the early hours and was heard to have said that the reason she was so well educated was that her family had money and she was educated with the Priests.

Bridget died in 1909 in the Hospital for the Insane, Kew, in Victoria, age on Death Cert was 84 yrs. A staff member completed her registration and most details were unknown.

Derry (Londonderry) / Searching for Stephenson and Baird/Beard
« on: Friday 28 January 11 05:33 GMT (UK)  »
Matthew Stephenson states on his marriage reg that he was born in Co. Derry to Alexander Stephenson and Susan Beard.  On his Death Reg and the obituary in the local newspaper it states he came from 'Stralore' in Ireland.  He arrived in Australia c1853 in Sth Aust where he spent 2 years before travelling on to Melbourne where he met Winifred Shanahan and they married in St Francis RC Church in Melbourne in 1857.

Their only son was named Michael but no Alexander has ever been used.  They did name their third daughter Susanna and various descendants have used Susan as a first and middle name.

Nothing is known about his family in Ireland and he was totally illiterate.

Antrim / Houston and Sempey of Ballymena
« on: Thursday 21 May 09 21:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am hoping I can connect with anyone connected to either of the Houston and Sempey families of Ballymena.
Isabella Sempey (Houston) was the daughter of Elizabeth Houston (Dale) and the granddaughter of  Samuel and Margaret Dale (Beattie)  of Ballycloghan.  My great grandfather Ferguson Dale was the brother of Elizabeth, who immigrated to Australia in 1857.  The names Samuel, Ferguson, Dale and Beattie were frequently used in the naming of the Houston and Sempey children.

Australia / Michael Francis CANTWELL - missing after 1903
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 23:24 BST (UK)  »
Michael Francis CANTWELL was born in 1879 to William Cantwell and Winifred Stephenson/Stevenson in Greendale, Victoria, Australia. In 1900 the family moved to Terang, Victoria, Australia. He was last documented in the Victorian Electoral Rolls in 1903 in the Corangamite District.  Although there is no evidence of him signing up the family story is that he died during the WW1 years.
