Canada Lookup Request / Mona St Clair Springett marriage record
« on: Monday 31 July 23 10:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi helpful folks !
I'm trying to find out whether the parents of  Mona St Clair Springett( b1912  Nova Scotia -d  1831 Toronto Ontario)   were Isabella ( Bella) de Forrest ( 1892-1918) and  Harry William Springett (1890-1953) OR
I have located a marriage record for a Jack  Mason and Eleanor Laing in Ontario .

I can also see a 1945  delayed birth registration for a John William Mason b1881 . Father was William Norman , mother Lucy and his sister Lilly L was the person registering the birth.

I'm not sure that this is "Jack"  Mason because I can see a marriage record for John William Mason and Alma D Laing .
Mona married Charles James Stobbs 1909- 1991 .
According to the bio ( Mona Stobbs )  on findagrave her marriage record states her parents were Jack and Eleanor, however although I can locate the record of her marriage  to Charles, I can't view the details

I've not been able to locate a birth record for Mona.

Its rather odd ( or maybe just a coincidence ) that
after  Bella de Forrest's death,  Harry William Springett married Alma Mason in 1921 at Halton , Ontario.
I can also see that Harry W , Alma and Mona are   together on the 1921 census

Sorry about the sketchy and somewhat confused  info but my Ancestry membership is the basic UK one so whilst it brings up Canadian records  it blanks out some of the details and I can't actually view the docs .
I started off trying to trace the Stobbs connection back to England as my paternal grandmother was a Stobbs. Then I became embroiled in this.
Some of the info initially came from the Stobbs Grainger Facebook page .

I've looked on familysearch but they don't seem to have the Ontario marriage records .

Any help is much appreciated.

Canada / Arthur Edgar Risbridger b1882 England
« on: Sunday 17 July 22 22:36 BST (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone can help solve my mystery please?

Arthur Edgar b 1882 in Woking ,Surrey to Jonathan W Risbridger and Emma Arnold
In 1902 he marries Maude E Worsley b 1889 Leighton Buzzard ,Bedfordshire at St Pancras
In 1903 their daughter Frances May/ Maisie is born.
On the 1911 census Maude, a widow, is working as a nurse in Lancashire and Maisie ( who eventually married my grandmother's brother Dr Joseph Arnold Stobbs) is with her maternal grandparents .

I found a record for Arthur Edgar on Findagrave and he died in Sept 1906 in Canada. There's no mention of any family members on the headstone in Elmwood cemetery , Winnipeg. According to my records the age of 28 on the headstone is incorrect.

Then I found an immigration record for Maude and Maisie travelling to Boston aboard the Devonian in November 1908. The records state she was a widow. Her passage was paid for by Joseph McCabe who was living at 198 Trenton Street ,  Boston, but it l seems  he may have been born in Ireland.
I can't find a record for Arthur Edgar arriving in America or any other records relating to his death., and nothing  for Maude and Maisie until the 1911 Census for England .
In 1901 Maude was working as a servant in London , so I'm wondering if she went to Boston to work as a servant for McCabe. Originally I thought she may have been going to see the grave of her husband or to sort out his affairs, although I did think it would be beyond her means , and her father was only a commercial traveller.
Thanks for any help.

Ireland / Ireland 1871 census lookup
« on: Monday 29 November 21 23:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. Can anyone help please?
I'm looking for John Charles Rogers, born 1844 , Cheshunt / Watford, Hertfordshire , although that's only from census' as I've not yet found a  birth record that I'm 100% sure is his. Father is James Rogers b 1815, mother Mary Ann Munns b 1818
On the 1871 England and Wales census , his wife, Emma and 2 daughters Catherine A and Sophia are in Cheshunt.
Emma is  Head and there appears to be a note in the occupation column which says her husband is a haybinder working in Ireland. Can anyone help finding him on the 1871 census in Ireland please?
The family name ROGERS appears to change to RODGERS somewhere in the early 1900's.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / One tun Ragged School,5, Westminster Buildings
« on: Monday 15 November 21 13:19 GMT (UK)  »

Hi. I've found a 1898 burial record for. John William Rogers ,age 4. Address is 5 Westminster Buildings.
It appears that in 1898 this was not only a school , but housing for families as well as a workingman's club of sorts ,which had moved from a former derelict pub, The One Tun on Perkins Rents , to Westminster Buildings on Pye Street, where it became known as The One Tun Mission.
Apparently the area was known as The Devil's slum.

I found the resource above to search the 1901 census for institutions which were enumerated separately from the regular census, but not sure what the Rg number would be.
I'll look at the regular census.
Looking for the surname Rogers.

Surrey Lookup Requests / 25 Loughboro St ,1891 census
« on: Tuesday 09 November 21 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I have an 1893 Lambeth Workhouse admission  record which says the person was as servant and admitted by her Master and the address is 25 Loughboro St ,followed by perhaps off Kennington Lane.
Pretty sure that the person was resident with her father in 1891, but there's some doubt about whether that's the correct person,so curious to see who was at 25 Loughboro St on the 1891 census , but I'm struggling to find the record.
Very grateful for any help.
