Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Luke GRETIA

has anyone come across the surname Gretia in Hampshire/ Isle of Wight?

I've found a monumental inscription relating to an Elizabeth Goater on the Isle of Wight Family History Society website - she's buried at St Swithin's Thorley and additional information gives her as wife of Thomas Goater, gent & daughter of Luke Gretia.

London and Middlesex / Nadir Baxter (1793-1848)

I've found a death record on familysearch for a Nadir Baxter in Kensington, London and an entry in the Greater London Burial Index for Nadir Baxter aged 55.

Can anyone find him in the 1841 census? His DOB is c1793, India and he was a merchant.

London and Middlesex / George Goater b 1815 Stepney, Middlesex

On the 1851 census George Goater b c 1815 in Stepney is a butcher with wife Ann (Abbott)
Ref: HO107 piece 1551 folio 203 page 14

By 1871 he's a retired butcher - Ref RG10 piece 891 folio 68 page 2.

I have both his marriage to Ann and later Frances Palmer and his death in 1892 in Gravesend, Kent.

Can anyone find him on the 1841 census and/or a baptismal record for him? I can't seem to find him before 1843 and his marriage to Ann.

Europe / Abbe Goater, Melicourt, France

Afternoon all

While playing in the British Newspapers this afternoon I've come across a death for an Abbe Goater, cure of Melicourt, Eure who sadly died of hydrophobia after being bitten by an infected dog on 03/09/1861 (Western Daily Press).

Is there any way of finding out more about the Abbe? I've had a quick google but there doesn't seem to be much info about.

Other Countries / Henry Langdale b 1848

Henry Langdale appears on the 1881 census in Fulham. His DOB is given as 1848 and he was born in India.

Can anyone find his baptism ? I've checked the Indian records on FIBIS and the British Library site but can't seem to see him.

Morning all

Henry Langdale b 1848 in India appears on the 1881 census with wife Elizabeth 25 & sons Ernest 2 & Albert 0 all born Middlesex. Ref: RG11/52/56/30

Can anyone see a marriage for him? Am curious as to his father but am struggling to find his baptism in the India records.

Have found a death which may be Elizabeth - Fulham 1883 vol 1a page 127 but can't find the boys or Henry on the 1891 census.

Morning all

I've found a marriage entry in Twyford, Hampshire as follows: -

William Goater Page, 39 widower, coachman to Lucy Carter, 38 spinster.

William's father is also William Goater Page a coal dealer.

Can anyone find either William Sr or William Jr & Lucy on the census or William Jr's birth. I am struggling to find a Goater/Page marriage.

Goater is my main line & I am intrigued as to why it is a middle name here.

London and Middlesex / Two ROBERT GOATERs - are they the same man?

I have Robert Goater, ships chandler & mathematical instrument maker of St John's Wapping marrying Ann Hill (from the National Archives).

They have a son John b. c. 1786 who also becomes a mathematical instrument maker.

There is a baptism in the London Docklands baptisms for a William Goater 28/05/1780 to Robert Bostock Goater and Ann Heater (Goater?). Robert is a mathematical instrument maker of St John's Wapping.

Is this the same Robert? Thoughts welcome

Somerset / Dinah GOATER - Somerset baptism help

I have a marriage at St Cuthbert, Wells on 12/12/1797 between Dinah Goater and George Morgan, both are given as OTP. One of the witnesses is a Mary Goater.

Can anyone help with a baptism for Dinah? There is a Goater family having children in Wookey at around the right time - Abraham and wife Dinah (Curnock) and they have a Mary b 1771 but I can't seem to find Dinah.
