The Lighter Side / Young Genealogists?
« on: Friday 10 June 16 21:38 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if there are any other people like me who are young genealogists/family tree researchers. I'm 16 and have been doing it for around 9 months now and I absolutely love it! Not only is it fascinating to research trees and find information that makes your family look boring, but it also broadens my mind, and gives me good challenges when I hit brick walls in my research.

The strangest part about it all is that I've researched about 40 family trees over the last 9 months, but never my own. I've always wanted to research my own family, however they are all born in Guyana. My dad's side of the family are hard to trace as my grandfather has many children with many different women, (so I have aunts and uncles that I have probably never heard of), as well as there being virtually no BMD, census records, or electoral rolls for Guyana, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA.

England / Millicent Rebecca J Palgrave & William Guthrie
« on: Friday 03 June 16 10:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am researching a tree where the a man's parents are Millicent Rebecca J Palgrave (1882-1969) and William Guthrie. They were married in 1909 in Newcastle upon Tyne, and a search of findmypast showed that after 1911, they had 2 sons. However in order to see if they had  any sons between 1909 and 1911 I was going to look at the 1911 census, but I can't find a single thing on them. No census, no birth records for Millicent, no definite death or birth record found for William, nothing on the 1939 electoral roll. I've hit a brick wall. Could anyone find a record for them?

Europe / Netherlands - Looking for marriage of a Van Oyen/Van Oijen to a Bos
« on: Tuesday 31 May 16 11:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm researching a (potentially) English/Dutch man's family, his parents had four children including him, with their surnames being "Van Oyen" and the mother's maiden name being "Bos". However there are no marriages for Van Oyen to a Bos in the UK, so I then went on the site wiewaswie.nl however it seems like both surnames are very common in the Netherlands. Could anyone shed any light on where this record could be, or suggest any other Netherlands BMD sites I could use?

Hi all,

I am researching the family tree for http://www.unclaimed-estates.org.uk/bv21515986/1 who as you can see was born on 30th January 1934, after spending 2 days doing his tree and nearly completing it, I realised that his middle name may have been an alternative spelling, as it was actually "Varnells", a common middle name found in his tree. However just as I was about to finish it, I found this http://death-records.mooseroots.com, for Raymond V Tustian, showing the same date of birth for that of the one on the unclaimed estates list, but a death that is 14 years apart from the other one.

It would make sense that he died in America, as he has two children and a grandchild born and living there, and his parents died there. However it doesn't explain the death in 2015. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this has happened?

Sorry for sounding so stupid, I'm thinking it's spouses, sons, parents, grandparents, etc. Am I right?
