Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Deciphering entry on Death Register
« on: Wednesday 01 July 20 12:03 BST (UK)  »
The attached is the parents’ section of the death register of my 3x great grandmother, Janet Morris, who died in 1891; the register notes that she was illegitimate hence no father mentioned. As regards her mother I can read the entry as far as “Ann Morris afterwards married to George Kinnaird” but I’m struggling with what follows. Is anyone able to help decipher it? Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Occupations
« on: Wednesday 10 June 20 18:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi

On the attached 1881 Census I had originally thought the occupation of my ancestor James McKay, schedule number 19, was Vandriver. However on looking at it again it appears to be Vendriver not Vandriver. Does anyone know what a Vendriver did?

Thank you.

Hi

Would it be possible for one you experts to restore the attached photo. The photo is of my great grandparents Henry Quinn and Margaret McGuigan and their children, one of whom was my paternal grandfather. I estimate the photo was taken early 1900s as Henry died in 1904.

Thank you in advance.

Stirlingshire / Kilsyth

Hi I'm looking for some help please. I have a birth certificate for an ancestor born in Kilsyth in 1862. I had originally thought the place of birth was Oldtower. However looking at it again it may be Oldtown. Does anyone know where that might have been? Thank you.

On the basis that there is no such thing as a daft question I'll ask this one. A lot of my ancestors were baptised/married in the Catholic Church. However on the various baptismal and marriage certificates the location of the event doesn't always mention that is a Catholic Church. Some just say Church, some just say Chapel. Some have different names for the same place eg Sacred Heart Church/Sacred Heart RC Church). So if I enter on FTM the place of the event per the certificate and then wish to do a search in the "Find" box in the Places Workspace for all those Catholic events I would have to search for both Church and Chapel. In strict terms must I enter the place as shown on the certificate or can I adjust the location name to always include the word Catholic and therefore make my searches simpler?
