Family History Beginners Board / How to find date of death
« on: Saturday 25 July 20 23:02 BST (UK)  »
I am looking to find the dates that two of my aunts died.
Both died in Wigan
Edith Tickle b 19/5/1901 died Qtr 3 1976 39 2181
Elizabeth Tickle b 18/3/1912 died Qtr 1 1979 39 2927
I know that with these details, I can obtain the death certificates, but at £11 each, that is a little expensive at the moment.
Are there any online databases that show the exact date of death?

I would be grateful for help in restoring this old photo of my dad.
I think it was taken during his national service before WW2.
On the back of the photo is written:
Trooper W Tickle 404566
HQ Squadron
3rd Carabaniers
Cavalry Barracks

My dad was born in 1914, he looks quite young, so would expect the photo was taken in the 1930ís
The family story goes that after completing his national service, he was later called up in WW2 and as he had recently been through his training, he was made a corporal and spent his service training new recruits.

Lancashire / No Father named on Marriage Certificate
« on: Thursday 08 November 18 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
My GG grandfather Enoch Tickle was born in Wigan 13 April 1851, the son of Robert Tickle and Ann Tickle formerly Hall. I have a copy of the birth certificate.
I have also found the birth certificates for a number of Enochís siblings.
Trying to move forward is proving difficult.
I have the marriage certificate for Robert Tickell and Anne Hall in Haigh Church, Wigan 28 April 1841
In the space for Fatherís name and occupation, against Robert, there is just a line scored through the box.
Does this mean that he was illegitimate or had his father already died.
Unbelievably, there are two Robert Tickles born in Wigan in 1818/1819 and I cannot absolutely determine which one is mine.
I would be grateful for any advice on how to move forward.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Arthur Oldham - Burnley

I am looking for Arthur Oldham, father of Annie Oldham.
When Annie married in 1935, her father's occupation eas described as Tea Blender, they lived in Celia Street, Burnley

Witnesses at the wedding included Arthur Oldham and Beattie Oldham
Would be grateful if someone could help me find this family.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Marriage lookup around 1902
« on: Saturday 22 June 13 16:58 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the marriage of Ernest Rowe and Nancy Ann Rimmer
Their eldest child (I think) Dorothy May Rowe was born in Bucklow, Cheshire in 1903
Nancy Ann Rimmer was born in 1876 in Birkdale and I have her 1881 census record
Ernest Rowe was believed to be from Southport
In the 1911 census, Dorothy May Rowe was living with her grandmother Ellen Rimmer in Wigan
I cannot her mother after 1881
Ernest Rowe is even more elusive, no sign of him at all!!!
I would be grateful if someone could find their marriage, then I would have a few more clues from the marriage certificate.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1911 Census - Miriam Dawber
« on: Friday 11 May 12 18:56 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Miriam Dawber born in Wigan 1892 in the 1911 census
She was the daughter of Thomas (b1865 Wigan) and Margaret (b1869 Ince) Dawber
At the time of her marriage, in October 1911, she was living at 31 Platt Lane, Wigan
I have searched on Ancestry and a Miriam Dawber b1896 comes up, although in Wigan, her parents are Thomas and Alice Jane Dawber.
I have tried different spellings of Dawber, but cannot find Miriam.
Can anyone help please?

Wexford / Lavin Marriage - Wexford
« on: Wednesday 08 February 12 16:43 GMT (UK)  »
I posted this request earlier this week on the County Mayo Board.
At the time I thought both the Lavins were born in County Mayo.
I have been to a family funeral today and a cousin corrected me, that Winifred was born in Wexford, so perhaps they were married in Wexford.
Can anyone help me to track down this marriage please?

I am looking for the marriage of my great grandparents
John LAVIN b 1846 married Winifred LAVIN b1848 in the late 1860s
By 1870, they were living in England, their eldest son James was born in Batley, they ecentually settled in Wigan.
There was always a family story about a Lavin marrying a Lavin.
From their children's birth certificates, this is true.
The name is sometimes down as LAVAN
I cannot find a marriage in England, so it is a possibility that they married in Ireland before moving to England.
According to later census records, they were both born in County Mayo.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the marriage record please?

Canada Lookup Request / Williams Family
« on: Wednesday 08 February 12 16:00 GMT (UK)  »
Thomas Williams b1854-1859 in Cornwall and Alice Williams b1863 Lancashire
I have traced them in the UK Census records up to 1901, then they disappear.
Their four children Alice b1881, Henry b1884, Mary Ellen b1885, Edith b1889, also disappear after 1901
Alice had a son before she married John Owen Tickle, he emigrated to Canada in 1910 and I have his records.
We believe that Thomas and Alice also went to Canada, possibly Manitoba
I have checked on Ancestry to see if I can find any emigration record from 1901, but cannot find them.
I looked at some of the other requests on this board and have checked the 1911 Canadian census, again with no success.
Other family members have tried unsuccessfullyto find Thomas and Alice.
I would be grateful for any help that anyone can offer.
