Yorkshire (West Riding) / Henry Battey Crawford 1883-1960
« on: Tuesday 07 June 22 00:59 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information about Henry B Crawford who was knocked and killed in a road traffic accident. I have his death certificate which says that he knocked down by a motor car whilst crossing the Wakefield road at Fitzwilliam, verdict, Misadventure. He died on 27 May 1960 at The General Infirmary, Pontefract. An inquest was held 1st June 1960 by Mr Gill, Coroner for the West Riding.

Would this accident have been reported in the local press and if so, which newspaper? A family rumour says that the driver of the car was a son of the mayor!

Just found  that my wife has ancestors born in Runcorn. Sent for the birth certificate which we received today. Place of birth given as Brick Croft, Runcorn, but I have been unable to find where this is. Does anyone have an old map of Runcorn from 1840-1850 and can find it for me

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Piece Number for Birdwell 1901 Census
« on: Friday 03 February 17 00:53 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather Alfred George Rowley born 1879 was sent to Birdwell by Barnardos to work in a butcher's shop. He was going blind so was not able to do the work and did not want to return to Barnardos inLondon. He vanished from Birdwell about Feb 1895 and I did not find him again until 1904 when his daughter was born in London. I need to search the 1901 census for Birdwell but do not know the piece number. He was not found in any search I have made of the 1901 census so I need to go through it page by page

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Edward Fillingham died in Halifax Workhouse 1884
« on: Monday 10 October 16 21:31 BST (UK)  »
Clutching at straws here. Edward Fillingham was born in Astley, Leigh, Lancashire in 1840. I last found him in the 1861 census aboard HMS Agamemnon in the Med as an ordinary seaman.
I have just purchased a death certificate for an Edward Fillingham died in the Halifax workhouse on 15th June 1884. He is stated to be 44 years old (which matches his birth date) His occupation is "Boatman from Sowerby" and the cause of death was acute peritonitis. So, he probably wasn't in the workhouse long.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the Admissions register if it still exists

I am uncertain that he is my Edward but this is my last lead

John William Morley was buried in Peel Green Cemetery on 31/7/1920. His grave is marked with a War Graves Commission headstone with the inscription

8114 Private John Morley Lancashire Fusiliers 27/7/1920.

He originally joined the Lancashire Fusiliers 6th Aug 1900 and was discharged to the reserve in Sep 1913. He was recalled at the start of WW1 and was in France by Sep 1914

Is anyone aware of his name appearing on any of the local war memorial? Maybe there is  website which lists the names!
