Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Whiley deaths
« on: Wednesday 22 February 23 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my great grandparents, Jospeh WHILEY and Mary Jane WHILEY (Going). They both died relatively young in Northampton in 1919. Mary died 12th December and Joseph 30th Jul and was just wondering if there is any way to find cause of death without ordering certificates? Thanks again in advance!

Armed Forces Resources / RAF record request
« on: Monday 20 February 23 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, knowing how helpful everyone has been on here previously, I thought I’d try my luck again! We are trying to trace my Grandad’s service history. He has been a complicated man to trace from birth and continues to be! We know from his marriage certificate that he was in the RAF as a leading aircraft man and have his service number on there, but as yet I have been unable to find any record of his service? Hoping someone may have some ideas?! His name is Charles William WHILEY and his service number on his marriage certificate is 1375913 at RAF Withersfiled, Essex.
Thanks in advance!

Armed Forces / Queen Mary's Women's Auxiliary Army Corps 1917-1919 and 1939
« on: Sunday 19 February 23 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I don't know if anyone can help. We have recently discovered that my great grandmother, Annie HARRISS, was part of the WAAC and was at Rouen for several years. We have traced some of her records for this time. She was living in Chalgrove at the post office with her uncle, it appears that she lost her mother and father at an early age. She was born in Australia and moved to Oxford. What we are also struggling with is the story of her being a spy!! She married Robert LEDGERWOOD, and on the 1939 register she is missing and we are unable to trace her during this period. Is there any way I could find out where she was or access military records as she appears to be completely untraceable for several years?! Thank you all in advance!! More detail can be supplied (hopefully!) if needed!

Midlothian / Hay/Ledgerwood confusion?!
« on: Monday 06 March 17 12:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I don't know if anybody can help? We seem to have hit a bit of a family mystery, I am trying to trace the birth of my great grandfather, Robert "ledgerwood". He was born in Midlothian, edingburgh I think abt 1893. The problem is I don't think he was born as ledgerwood but changed his name to this to flee his parents and join the Gordon Highlanders?! He went by ledgerwood since he joined our family and married Annie Harriss in Dec 1920. As far as we know his fathers surname was Hay and his mothers first name Jane and they also had Abigail ledgerwood Hay. So not sure if he stole the name from there or if his mothers maiden name was ledgerwood or generations back? Any help would be gratefully received many thanks!

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Erpingham records birth search
« on: Wednesday 20 July 16 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi I don't know if anybody can help me I'm trying to trace my grandad, Charles William Whiley, we can't seem to trace his birth record and the closest I can find is for erpingham, volume 4b, page 75. Would anybody be able to advise if I can get hold of the certificate and how I would go about it please? Any help gratefully received. I've got his marriage and death certificate but don't think his date of birth is right on there we are estimating between 1907-1909!
