I have a death cert which shows my grt g/mother died in 1899 at the Union Workhouse Merthyr Tydifl, but am wondering if there is a way to find out how long she resided there.

Family History Beginners Board / meaning of a occupational description

In tracing ancestors in LlanddewiBreifi/ Doethie Camddwr  1851 Census, I came across, in the occupation column, 686 acres, including sheep walk.
I am wondering if anyone is able to tell me what this sheep walk means and what it entailed, please.

Family History Beginners Board / Location of probates

An ancestor died in1990 at Nailsworth Glos and the Probate was dealt with in Llandaff.
Can anyone, please, throw light on why this should be:   was it perhaps that executors resided in Llandaff area perhaps.

I recently received death cert of G.A.Ellen who died North Curry Somerset 11 July 1870 aged 17.  Cause of death states ? Cerebro spinal fever 14 days certified.   I am wondering if anyone can throw a light on what the '14 days certified' means, please.     M.

Family History Beginners Board / marriage licences

My ancestors in 1785 at Winchcombe obtained and were married by  a marriage licence.    Can anyone tells me please why this licence would be necessary and would they have had to pay a fee, etc.
