Midlothian / When was William Elliot born and who were his parents?

Helping a friend and are hoping someone can help her.
She has all the families and dates right up to my brick wall.
When was William ELLIOT born and who were his parents?
William ElLLIOT and Mary DUN were married 25/11/1789
Edinburgh (Midlothian) Scotland
William ELLIOT Gent's servant, Old Kirk Parish and Mary DUN same Parish. Daughter of the deceased John DUN, Shepherd of Dodhead County of Roxburgh Scotland.
Mary's father died just before their marriage 19/7/1789
They had 2 sons.
John ELLIOT born 11/9/1792 Galashiels and his father was listed as servant at Rink.
William ELLIOT born 9/8/1794 and his father was listed as a servant at Philliphaugh Selkirk.
Mary died in 1835 at 79 years old, making her birth 1756. William died before Mary and she never remarried.
On both of the son's death certificates their father William was listed as a farm servant.

Morning ,
Are these two gentleman the same person.
The attached photo was given to me by an aunt and is my James Henry CLAYTON from Stratford and the newspaper item from The Taranaki Daily News - Stratford Supplement in 1878 -1953 shows Geo SMART.
Either my auntie has it wrong or the the Taranaki Daily News which James Henry CLAYTON did own in 1903 has made an error. What do you think, the same person?

Morning,
Just a very long shot, but is anyone related to Herbert SMITH and Ivy Kathleen CANTELIN who married in 1940 Hastings. Have found a few trees online and one lists nine children before Herbert SMITH passed away in 1965. Ivy's death is recorded in 1993. Ivy CANTELIN also had a previous marriage in 1929 to Thomas HAWKINS and after Herbert SMITH's death she married a Mr McCALLUM. We have ordered a death printout but with the name SMITH fingers crossed that we can match up the children. Have checked the electoral rolls and have a possible three.

Cardiganshire / John Thomas and son Samuel

Morning all,
I have found my Samuel Thomas in 1851 widow, living in England a retired merchant birth place London, but are lead to believe his father is a John Thomas from Lampeter Co Cardigan. I have found admin papers (no will) for Samuel, which I have ordered. So are really just looking for some help, or someone who has Samuel and John in their tree. Sorry I don't have anymore details on these two.
