Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage at Battle, Sussex in 1775
« on: Saturday 09 June 18 21:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I wonder if anyone can help me with a conundrum?
I'm looking for the reference/details for a marriage of James CROUCH to Mary VENIS at Battle, Sussex. I have a record of such a marriage taking place on 26 Nov 1775 but do not know where I got those details from! Can anyone confirm such a marriage taking place?
I'd be most grateful for any help!
Best wishes, Graham

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Burials at Polstead
« on: Thursday 01 March 18 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone

Would someone who has access to burial records for Suffolk be kind enough to give me any information, if possible on the following burials:

Mary Montague, died January 1827 at Polstead
Jeremiah Montague, died 1853, at Polstead

I believe both are buried at Polstead. If anyone can shed light on their ages, etc., I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks

Graham

Suffolk / Advice for condundrum at Polstead!
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I'm new to researching ancestors in Suffolk so am looking for some advice!

I've got a conundrum with my ancestors at Polstead.

My 4th Great Grandmother, Hannah MONTAGUE married John GARD(I)NER at Polstead in 1815. Hannah was born at Polstead and baptised there in 1791. From online transcriptions I note that her baptism record appears to suggest she is the daughter of Richard MOY and Mary MONTAGUE.

The confusion is that Mary MONTAGUE was nee GREENWOOD (born at Polstead in 1752). She married James MONTAGUE at Polstead in 1777. I'm guessing James died at some stage prior to 1791 when my Hannah was born which could explain why her father is recorded as Richard MOY??? or was she born illegitimate? or had James MONTAGUE done a runner? and if so, to where???!

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I wonder if anyone can tell me if James MONTAGUE died around the 1777-1791 period; or indeed who was Richard MOY (sometimes spelt MOYS or MOYSE)???

It's all very confusing and I'd certainly appreciate any thoughts. I'd really like to try as best I can to establish Hannah's parentage.

Thanks

Armed Forces / Royal Naval Hospital (Lunatic Asylum), Great Yarmouth
« on: Sunday 29 March 15 20:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have an ancestor who was in the RN Hospital at Great Yarmouth from about 1880-1896 - he's recorded as a "lunatic".

Does anyone know if there are records for this Hospital/Asylum for this period and suggest where my ancestor might be buried if he died there?

Thanks

Graham

Staffordshire / DEAKIN/DEYKIN of Farewell, Chorley and Walsall
« on: Saturday 28 March 15 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I'm in the midst of trying to piece together my DEYKIN (and varient spelling) ancestors from Walsall who appear to have had origins in the Farewell, Chorley, Lichfield area.

Im currently back to Thomas DEYKIN of Farewell who left a Will dated 1641. In turn I descend from his son Thomas who was later Mayor of Walsall in the 1650s.

The Parish Registers for Farewell do not appear to begin until the 1690s so I'm a bit stuck taking this line back any further - although the 1641 Will tantalisingly carries the name of a Nicholas DEAKIN as a witness... so he's probably related... but how to prove?

If anyone out there has already researched any of the family from this area can they share their thoughts with me?!

All the best

Graham

Dear All

Can anyone tell me if there is a list of the Monumental Inscriptions for the churchyard at St Michael's, Flixton?

Also does anyone have access to the Burial Register for St Michael's, Flixton from circa 1918-1940?

Best wishes

Other Countries / Coroners Inquest papers in British India
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 21:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I've discovered that a relative was buried "after a coroners warrant" at Calcutta in 1911.

Can anyone shed light on whether Inquest and/or other coroner papers still exist for the Calcutta coroner? Or perhaps suggest where else I could search for information? Newspapers???

Many thanks

Lancashire / Manchester Churches
« on: Sunday 10 November 13 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

Slightly off genealogy - but I wonder if anyone here can help me locate photographs/images of the interior of:

1. All Saints Church, Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester
2. St Mary's Church, Hulme, Manchester

For many years I have been researching aspects of Church history in Manchester and have never seen an interior photograph of either Church. Can anyone help?

Many thanks for any thoughts...

Graham
