My great-grandfather George Gorton emigrated in New Zealand in 1875.  He was raised in Uffington Berkshire, the son of John Gorton (b 1825) and Maria (nee Mathews b 1830).  I would be interested to contact any one who may be connected to this family.

Armed Forces / Ashley - Islington
« on: Friday 10 March 06 04:18 GMT (UK)  »
On behalf of a friend - I'm looking for any record of a Joseph Standing Ashley born 25 January 1884 in Islington.

He served with the Royal Fusiliers (spelling?) in South Africa in 1901/02 maybe in the mounted infantry.

Sorry I cannot be more precise but does anyone have any information on this person.

Stirlingshire / Looking for Norie/Norrie - Dunn in Fintry
« on: Monday 06 February 06 03:57 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have a Norie or Norrie family in their tree?

Alexander Norie/Norrie married Margaret Mair abt 1760 in Fintry.

According to IGI their children were:

Alexander (1762)
John (1764)
James (1766)
David (1770)
William (1774)

James married Ann Neilsen/Neilson in 1787 in either Killearn or Fintry and their children were (IGI again)

John born abt 1788
Martha abt 1791

Martha married William Dunn in 1822.  I have heard of something called handfast (where it was a promise of marriage and then when a priest visited the village the marriage would be formalised - or is this just a myth) because my gggrandmother Jean Dick Dunn was born abt 1819 and on her death certificate on scotlandspeople, Martha and William were both listed.  Other children were:

James Dunn (1822)
John Dunn (1828)
Ann Dunn (1831)

« on: Tuesday 17 January 06 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Am trying to find the arrival in New Zealand of a Thomas Bunt Meager from Luxulyan, Cornwall.  He is recorded as being in the Nasby gold diggings in 1874 (as a witness at a wedding of a Rueben Hore).  He could have arrived in the company of both Rueben and William Rundle.

Can someone help please

Lanarkshire / Help in finding a Marriage please - Miller
« on: Wednesday 11 January 06 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for a marriage of David MILLER, born Liberton in 1812.  David was the son of William and Fanny (Frances nee HARDIE).  It could be around 1848, as I have a son Terance born abt 1849, but maybe earlier.

This marriage could have been in Midlothian or Larnarkshire, as David remarried in Larnark in 1858 so will post this on both boards.

Thank you in anticipation
