Yorkshire (North Riding) / Turner family Whitby

Hi all,

I'm researching a branch of the Turner family of Whitby. My connection is through my father, Eustace Forth Turner, born in 1921 in Whitby, who, with his parents (Frank Turner, born 1891, Whitby and Mary Gibson Turner, nee Lawson, born 1892, West Hartlepool; married 1917) and sister, Joan born 1919 migrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1926.

Frank was the youngest of 12 - Robert Forth 1867-1941; John 1868-?; Alice 1870-?; Margaret 1872-? William Forth 1874-?; Mary 1876-?; Jane Douglass 1878-1941; Annie 1879-1882; Hilda 1882-1940 and another Annie 1886-1979 (also migrated to Adelaide, pre 1925, married 1924 in Adelaide to her first cousin Robert Forth Stephenson, born 1894 Whitby-1967)

Frank's parents were John Wilkinson Turner, 1843-1901 a painter and Mary Turner nee Forth, c1847-1925?

If anyone is able to provide any information regarding my ancestors that would be very much appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / Lawson family West Hartlepool

Hi all,

This is my first post.

The people I am interested are my great grandparents;

George Lawson - born 1862, Hutton Mulgrave, Yorkshire, died 1943 in County Durham (I think, reasonable degree of certainty). I understand he was a Wagon Wright.
Mary Jane Gibson - born 1864, Whitby, died 1932, Stockton, Durham (I think, less certainty)

And their children as shown below;

Margaret N (1887, 44 Church St, Whitby -?)

George William (1890? Lyom St West Hartlepool - ?), Moulder Iron Foundry

Bertie (27 Dec 1890 Pilgrim St, West Hartlepool - 1952?), Machinist Joiner, possibly married Edith Wise in 1914

Mary Gibson, my grandmother (September 1892 in West Hartlepool) m Frank Turner, Whitby 1917

David Gibson (September 1892 – ?), Gardener in 1911 census, Mary's twin

Doris (1898 Wansbeck Gardens West Hartlepool - ?)

Archie?   (no record in any census)

Unknown (died in infancy?)

Mary Gibson Turner, nee Lawson and Frank Turner are my grandparents. They were married in Whitby in 1917 and migrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1926.

In the 1901 census my grandmother was noted as being at Wensleydale St, West Hartlepool with her uncle and aunt Frank and Aunt Frances (neeGibson) Hoggarth.

Most of the information I have has been gleaned from the online census records. Any additional information anyone can share about my Hartlepool/County Durham ancestors would be very much appreciated.

The other side of the family are the Turners of Whitby but I might save them for another post. Thanks
