World War One / Acronym used in a Service Description
« on: Saturday 30 November 19 18:33 GMT (UK)  »
In my research of the parishioners who served in the First World War and returned, I have come across an Acronym for which I have been unable to find an explanation on-line.  The person involved was a carpenter in civilian life, Ernest James Ottaway, born in 1889, his name appears in the 1918 list of Absent Voters from the parish (there is not an earlier list) and his entry reads: Private 501923 - L.C.N.C. Attd. X Co. Army Service Corp. I have not found any Service Record or Medal Card for Private Ottaway from the National Archive or Find my Past.  The acronym L.C.N.C. defies all my efforts.  Help please.

London and Middlesex / Huckle birth at Peterskeeby??
« on: Thursday 07 November 19 12:26 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to resolve the information surrounding a Huckle family birth in 1897 at Peterskeeby, which appears to be in or near to Hackney. The family had it's roots in Norfolk. I have been unable to find any information about Peterskeeby.  Does anyone recognise this name?  I'd be very grateful for any suggestions offered.

Sincere thanks - Alex Edge

I have First World War period Electoral Lists with two Absent Voters who were recorded as Privates in the 680th Ag. Co. and 433 Ag. Co. respectively.  Despite my best efforts I have been unable to find an explanation for "Ag.Co."   Can anyone help please?

I have two Marriages by Licence at the above Church.  1762 and 1803.  They do not appear in either the Lichfield & Coventry Diocese or the York Diocese lists of Marriage Bonds and Allegations.  Any suggestions very welcome.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Legal Advice?
« on: Monday 19 February 18 09:36 GMT (UK)  »
About 150 years ago, a branch of my family had fall-out following the death, without a Will, of their father;  Thomas Gregory, a large scale, north Derbyshire, farmer.  The case got to Chancery Court, there were contemporary newspaper notices and reports charting its progress.   My problem is that I can't see what they were arguing about.  Is there a web site anywhere that can interpret for me what it was all about?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Bridegroom's Surname?
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 17:28 BST (UK)  »
I'd be very grateful for the help of anyone who cares to take a shot at interpreting the problem I have come across.
We are in the Marriage Indexes for the Third Quarter of 1965, letter M, Page 54.  At the bottom of the left hand page, under the Melville surnames is a hand written entry.  The text appears to me as follows:
"1. Mellor, Freda K.  [undecipherable surname]  Macclesfield 10A  979" .  The transcriber has it as:
"1. Mellor, Ireda K.   [Grooms surname]  Arran  Macclesfield 10A 979".  IMHO the surname looks nothing like Arran and the couple had children and they don't respond to searching with the Arran surname.
Any assistance warmly welcomed.
