Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / German baptism help
« on: Saturday 15 April 23 06:58 BST (UK)  »
The two snips are from baptism records for 2 brothers at ST Matthaeus Berlin in 1867 and 1869.
The father's name is STAAR, Heinrich Ludwig Alexius.
Could anyone help with the two words that come below his name? Starts with R....... ?
I am hoping they might give his occupation or other useful information.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Clara and Sisters in Atherton 1901
« on: Saturday 08 January 22 01:49 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year greetings.
I would love a gentle clean and restore of this photo taken in 1901, North Queensland. My Grandmother, Clara is on the left, tending the dead plant. The oldest sister has just had her first baby. No colour please.
Thanks in advance.

Labour was desperately needed in 1848, when my Neale ancestors arrived in Moreton Bay. Within a day, they were employed to work on Mr. Alexander Fotheringham’s 40,000 acre cattle station near Killarney, at the headwaters of the Clarence river (now on the NSW-QLD border). It took them weeks to get there on bullock dray. The family lived in one of the shingled slab huts on the station, and this is where my great-grandfather was born.
Although this photo was taken about 20 years later, records from 1850 describe a similar scene; buildings and surrounds. This photo of the main homestead and adjacent huts & barn (none of which survive) needs some tender loving care from a restorer. No colour thanks.

I am not sure what can be rescued from this badly faded photo. It is in desperate need of some magic from you brilliant restorers, if anyone is up to the challenge. I hope you might be able to find some of their faces, without having to reconstruct. No colour required, thanks.

I am also interested in opinions regarding the date of the photo, as I try to work our which daughter this is. Sarah & John married in 1875 in Queensland, and had a huge family over the following 20 years. My current thinking is early-mid 1880s, which would make her their first daughter born in 1877.
Thanks for your interest.
