Could someone decipher the handwriting on this medical record for my ancestor, in particular the last columns - Diseases, Treatment and Observations?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Caroline Cottrell born 1817
« on: Thursday 25 August 22 04:10 BST (UK)  »
Caroline Cottrell born 1817, was my 3X Great Aunt. She was convicted of stealing at the London Old Bailey in 1842, and transported to Van Diemen's Land, sentence 10 years.
I found her record of conduct at https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON40-1-2$init=CON40-1-2p241
But it's quite hard to decipher. I have attached the relevant snip.
Can anyone tell me what this says please?
Many thanks in anticipation
Charlie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Charles Wilson Cottrell
« on: Friday 12 November 21 00:41 GMT (UK)  »
Photo of Charles Wilson Cottrell - middle row, far right, my Great Grandfather.
Born 1854, served with 2/15th East Yorkshires in India till 1888, then he transferred to South Wales Borderers (SWBs) when the regiment returned home.
I'm guessing he is about 35 in this photo, i.e. about 1888. So I don't know if he is still with the East Yorks or the SWBs  in the photo.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in anticipation

The Common Room / Passenger Lists from/to Bombay/Aden 1885-1887
« on: Thursday 02 May 19 07:36 BST (UK)  »
I have looked through (& clicked on) most of the links on the RootsChat site (plus gone through Ancestry & FindMyPast records, but haven't found the relevant info.
FIBIS tells me that often passengers from India would disembark at Marseilles then travel by train & ferry to UK. But this doesn't seem to help me.
My search concerns my Great Grandmother Mary Martha Cottrell (nee Davies) born 1862.
Her husband was serving with the 2/15th in Bombay in 1885/6, and I'm almost sure he didn't come to UK with her (his service record seems to confirm this).
She brought her 4 children with her (last one born 1885 Bombay) and stayed with her parents in New Tredegar, South Wales. Two of her children attended the local infants school there for a year - August 1886 to Sept 1887.
She died in childbirth in Aden in September 1888, where her husband's regiment was stationed.
And so I am interested in finding her and perhaps her children on the passenger lists from Bombay 1885/6 and to Aden 1887/8.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Glamorganshire / Exemption from Matriculation
« on: Thursday 31 January 19 04:17 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking at my father's Army Service record. He was born in Merthyr Tydfil 1917, and I think attended Quakers Yard Secondary School.
The service record gives:
Certificates of Education:
•   School Certificate of the University of Oxford
•   School Certificate of the Central Welsh Board
•   Exemption from the Matriculation Certificate of the University of London.
From Google I find:
"matriculation" refers to the minimum university entrance requirements (usually called a matric exemption as it provides an exemption from writing entrance exams when applying for University entrance)
Does this imply he took a Higher School Certificate?
I'm sure he didn't go to Uni, so how/why did he get the "exemption" certificate?

Family History Beginners Board / Alice Maud Cottrell born 1891 Vaynor, Wales
« on: Wednesday 28 November 18 23:14 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks to all who helped me find Alice Maud's emigration to Australia in 1921 - it really opened a whole new world for me. But now I have another question about Alice Maud. I now have a copy of a letter from King George V, dated 1918, in which he wishes Alice "God Speed" & "A grateful Mother Country thanks you for faithful services". I can't find any military service record in the National Archives, I wonder if she was in employment at Buck Palace? (She became pregnant with an Australian soldier in 1918 who was in Colchester Hospital at this time, hence her subsequent emigration to Aus.) So is there any way of tracing Palace employees at this time?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Francis Edwin Cottrell
« on: Thursday 22 March 18 02:44 GMT (UK)  »
Francis Edwin Cottrell was born in Aden 11/8/1888, and baptised in St Mary's Church, Aden on 30/8/1888. Parents were Mary Martha & Charles Wilson Cottrell, returning from India after serving with the East Yorks regiment. Both Francis and his mother Mary Martha died soon after his birth (Francis - exact date not known, but it was 1888 & in Aden, Mary Martha died 4/9/1888) Mary Martha was buried on 5th Sept 1888 in Holkat Bay Cemetery, Aden, but I don't know where her son Francis was buried.
Records for Holkat Bay Cemetery, Aden, for British nationals buried there between 1880 and 1889, are kept by the British Library, India Office Records, Ecclesiastical Returns, Registers of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials in Aden.
I am hoping someone might be able to find the burial record for Francis?

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / COTTRELL Merthyr Express March 1973
« on: Friday 20 October 17 00:40 BST (UK)  »
On 2nd March 1973, there was a letter in the Merthyr Express about the Cottrell family - father & sons, from Mrs M Jones (nee Cottrell). I have received a copy of the text of the letter, but it refers to a photograph which was published as part of the letter. I would love to see that photo. Can anyone tell me how to access the archives of the Merthyr Express for that date?
Most archives on line only go up to about 1910.
