Hello I am chasing a long shot in the never ending search of my great great grandfather.

I am trying to find what happened to the below people, and particular where Maurice Mathis came from, any brothers etc. Any help would be fantastic. Everything is French etc, the names and dates for people don't match and one daughter seems to of married 3 times in a few years?
1896 census - Saint-Denis, Seine, France
I have - Household
Maurice Mathis - 47
Philomιne Mathis - 57 (birth name Arthιnac) married 1874
Marie Mathis - 29
Marguerite Mathis - 16

I have Maurice parents from marriage record of him and Philomene as Maurice Mathis and Marie Marguerite Fournier.

Any help at all please, would be very grateful. Thanks :-)

« on: Sunday 14 October 18 00:04 BST (UK)  »
Looking in to my great uncles child. She was born Beryl O N 1920's Wandsworth, London to Mabel Howe and Thomas James Nichols. Some reason she is not on their 1939 record but in some sort of house, but then back with her mother and sister in Birmingham in the late 40s early 50s.
Her sister dies very young and her mother in 1961. Beryl marries a Iwan M (no birth record) they marry 1950's  Droitwich, Worcestershire, United Kingdom. They are both on a ship heading to Canada in 1950's... and that is where is stops, not sure what happened to her or her husband, if they had children etc. Any help would be grand please.

Europe / Brain Buster Only for the brave Mathis
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 20:14 BST (UK)  »
So 6 years in and still none the wiser.

Now my 3rd great grandfather is a mystery. To save any time, I know about each and everyone of his children and their children and their children  ;D

But he is a mystery.
So I have him on 3 census 1891 says he is alien Switzerland. 1901 says he is alien Switzerland.
And 1911 a month before he dies, which I believe he wrote this one himself, says Germany! All while living in London.

Next puzzle, his wife, their is no marriage that can be found, and wonder if it could of been in France, which I will explain why.

Their 2nd child born 1984 have a birth record in French if anyone one like to see, says Paris, so maybe they could of married in Paris.

He was a Stonemason by trade, and wonder what they could of been doing in Paris? The birth record for 2nd child has an address, which I have tried searching, but nothing comes up.

The rest of the children were all born in London and again I know all about their pasts/futures.

So before I give he's and he's wives details, I will also add, I could not find any nationalization record, or any shipping record, wonder how they got to Paris and back, as the 3rd,4th,5th and 6th child all born back in London.

He seems from the one photo I have a distinguished gentleman, he paid into a work trade union which I found a record off and his cause of death.

So I have his name as  William Otto Morsty Mathis born 1858 and died 10 MAY 1911
and his wife Ellen Jane Gough born 1858  4 Plough Court, Saint Clement Danes and died 27 JAN 1907 Wandsworth.

I thought their must be a shipping record or something somewhere if they were in Paris too, the birth record mentioned them both as husband and wife in Paris.
Anyone feeling brave is welcome thanks :-)

Scotland / Help with record and brick wall please
« on: Saturday 10 March 18 11:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all, this is really puzzling me. I think I have the right people but not 100%

Please bare with its a long one, but want to get as many facts in a possible.

I'm trying to find my 3rd great grandmother's parents and that the 1841 census I have is actually her.

I'm going to start with what I know, family was not close, so just going on records.

Mother was born June Mason 1937 in Mansfield Nottinghamshire.
Her parents were

John Jack Mason born 1905 Oldham to James Mason and Mary Kennedy (Will come back to these as its this line I am tracing)

John Jack married Florence Bettison in 1930 Mansfield.

I don't have a death for John Jack or his father James.

But Mary Kennedy died 16 JUL 1934 in Mansfield.

It is her line I am looking forward..

So I have Mary Kennedy born 05 NOV 1877  Oldham
To a Mary Gillespie Born 08 JAN 1847 Pallyards, Cumberland
and Mary Gillespie dying Mary Kennedy 1 OCT 1899 in Oldham.

Mary Gillespie married John Kennedy 13 Dec 1875 in Oldham.

John Kennedy died 01 MAY 1930 in Oldham.

So back to who I am really looking for, Mary Gillspie family..

Mary was born to I believe John Gillespie born 6 JUL 1810 Pallyards, Stapleton, Cumberland to a Richard and a Mary I believe (but not chasing them yet either)

And Elizabeth Linton (this is who I am after) Elizabeth born 10 Feb 1826 in Scotland.. On ancestry is says father John Linton and mother Nancy Tidman.

Elizabeth Linton I have marrying John Gillespie on 17 Dec 1846 Stapleton, Cumberland, England. (This is not far from Scotland boarders, who where I believe she was in the 1841 census)

So this is where it ha got tricky, if I am right on all above.. The only Elizabeth Linton born between 1800 and 1835 with father being a John and mother a Nancy was born 10/02/1826..

But I can not find a marriage with a John Linton or a Nancy or anyone with the surname Tidman.

The 1841 census I have has below
John Linton    50
John Linton    21
James Linton    15
George Linton    10
Jane Linton    40
Elizabeth Linton    17
Frances Linton    12
Jane Linton    10
Janet Linton    2
Mary Bell    35
Margaret Rome    20
John Johnston    55
John Robinson    25

It has a Elizabeth born in 1824, but there is only only Elizabeth Linton I can find born to a John within a 30 year span. And no other Elizabeth Linton's are born within a 2 year span either side of 1824 with any father name. their all 1829 or higher.

I am including a snippet of the birth I have for Elizabeth...
Hoping someone can confirm if the 1841 census I have is my Elizabeth and who her mother was and where the marriage is, if any.

Thanks for bearing with.
