Looking for some advice on an occurance that has left me a bit flummoxed. I have spoken about my Camerons before in other threads, though not about this particular query.
Here are links to some previous threads of mine about these Camerons;

My ancestors are
Duncan Cameron and
Flora Stewart.
Duncan born c.1808 in Ross & Cromarty, probably either Contin or "Redcastle". It varies by census.
Flora was born 1812, Killearnan.
I have the following children for them;
Fin(d)lay b.1834, Wellhouse of Kilcoy, Killearnan
Flora b.1837, Inverness
Duncan b.1841, Linlithgow
Elizabeth c.1845, Burntisland, Fife
Margaret c.1847, Burntisland
Mary c.1848, Burntisland
John c.1851, Burntisland
Jane c.1854, Old Machar, Aberdeen
Catherine b.1856, Keith, BanffshireI have the couple/family in the following census (excluding 1861 which I will explain at the end)
1841High Street, Linlithgow
Duncan (30), a labourer Flora (25) with children Finlay (7) and Flora (4). Also in the household are; Alexander Mccrea, Duncan Mccrea and Farquhar Mcgilvray
18516 Petty Road, Kinghorn, Fife
Duncan (40) - Maltster "born Inverness"
Flora (40) "born Inverness"
and children;
Finlay, 16, Flora, 14, Elizabeth, 6, Margaret, 4, Mary, 3
1861See below
1871Grange of Barry, Old Manse, Forfarshire (Angus)
Duncan (60) - Ag Lab "born Contin"
Flora (55) "born Redcastle"
Daughter, Jane Cameron (18) "born Aberdeen"
Grandson David Robertson (12) "born Aberdeen"
NB David Robertson was registered as David Cameron (illegitimate), born August 1858 at Land Street, Keith, Banffshire. Mother named as Flora Cameron. Informant was grandmother, Flora Cameron. David's mother Flora later married a John Crow in 1862, Kirkden, Angus 188115 Ernest Street, Arbroath, Angus
Duncan (72) - Ag lab "born Reed Castle, Ross"
Flora (61) "born Reed Castle, Ross"
Duncan then dies at this address in May 1882.
189124 Hamilton Green, Arbroath
"Mrs Cameron" (75) "born Red Castle" , Gaelic and English speaker.
John (35) - general labourer "born Burntisland" English speaking only.
Flora dies at Hamilton Green, Arbroath in December of that year.
Now, onto the issue with the 1861 census, they appear back in Ross and Cromarty, either in Fodderty or in Maryburgh?
From what I know, the census was taken as a snapshot of one night only and it was taken on the same day?
I will post snips of what I have from 1861. It looks like the exact same family given the ages, and places of birth? Could someone have been "pretending" to be them??
The first is listed on SP under Fodderty, Ross and Cromarty
The second is listed on SP under Dingwall, Ross and Cromarty
But they both appear to be in Maryburgh?
Note the difference between the way David Robertson aka Cameron is noted, in one he's a "son" in the other he's a "grandson".
Any help appreciated
