Travelling People / Researching Irish traveller ancestors

Hello all. I've been trying to find my great grandmother for years. Her name was Mary Finn she was an Irish traveller but I cannot find anything on her anywhere, is this due to travelling and not registering her birth? It's a mystery!

Family History Beginners Board / Catholics pretending to be Protestants in Ireland?

I've recently discovered something in my family history, I've discovered that my great grandparents had a child out of wedlock, and that apparently, according to a family member, they were Protestant, but I've found them both on census and they are both listed as Roman Catholics, Did they pretend to be Protestants to cover up their child out of wedlock? Did this happen in the Republic of Ireland back then? I thought this type of thing may have happened in Northern Ireland but not the Republic, they both have irish surnames too. Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated

I am looking for my great grandfathers family, his name was John Joseph Long, fathers name was John Long, not sure of his mothers, he married my great grandmother in 1925, so I'm guessing around that period? I'm looking for my great grandparents, Laurence Hayden and Mary O'Neill of Arklow, all I know is the names of their Children, my grandfather James, Joseph, Laurence and I think just Eileen? And I only know the birth year of my grandfather, which was 1930 and in Rathdrum, any information would be appreciated as I'm new to this whole thing, thankyou very much.

Hello all, I'm looking for my great grandfather, I've been told his name was John Long, and he was married to Mary McIntyre, they lived in Arklow and together they had my nan Grace, Cecil, Violet, Maisy, Bob and Eileen.
