Angus (Forfarshire) / Merchant Navy Mate Lost
« on: Sunday 23 May 10 20:47 BST (UK)  »
An 85 year old neighbour of mine was in the Merchant Navy during the 2WW with Charlie Kilgour of 124 Hilltown, Dundee.   They were great friends but were assigned to different ships and lost touch with each other.  According to a letter from his father (Charles Kilgour Senior) he was on a tanker.  I can't find any record of Charlie's death during the War.

I would very much like to reunite the two friends if Charlie is still living.

Can anybody help or point me in the right direction of where to look?

Charlie's contact address in 1944 was

Dorset / Milton Mill, Milton Abbas - George
« on: Friday 14 July 06 21:45 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in an Edward George who was a mill owner in Milton Abbas in the 1880's.  Does anyone know anything about the mill in Milton Abbas?  I know it was situated on the River Piddle just south of Milton Abbas.  I would love to be able to find a photograph of it.  The George family lived in Milton Abbas during the 18th and 19th centuries.  If there are any members of the George family still around, I would like to hear from you.

Ireland / Cornelius John McKenna
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 22:40 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a Cornelius John McKenna (or M'Kenna) who eloped with Annie Ellen Rowland in 1881.  He was a Surgeon Lt. Colonel in the Bengal Medical Establishment when he met her, and she was married to the Reverend William Rowland.  They married in London in 1883 (after the Rowland divorce) and after that I have lost track of them.  He was born in Ireland, I think, so I wondered if they might have gone back there.  Does anyone have any idea how I could find out where they went and whether they had any children?
I have not done any research in Ireland before.

Westmeath / Bookeys of Castlepollard
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 22:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to track a teacher called Richard H Bookey who taught at Berkhamsted in 1891.  He originated from Castlepollard, and moved back to Ireland around 1891.  I would like to find out whether he started up another school in Ireland and whether he took some of his Berkhamsted pupils with him.  The pupils I am particularly interested in are Cecil Rowland (aged 13 in 1891) and Lancelot Bullock (10 in 1891).

World War Two / Home Guard Surrey

Would anybody have any idea where I could find information about someone who was in the Home Guard in Surrey during the second world war?  A photograph of his unit would be brilliant.

The Common Room / T C Parkinson Australian Plague Victim
« on: Monday 16 January 06 22:59 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching a scientist called Sydney Domville Rowland who died in France in WW1.  In 1909, he was working for the Lister Institute at Queensberry Lodge, near Elstree, Hertfordshire, England, trying to find a vaccine to combat plague.

A young Australian called Thomas Carlyle Parkinson was working with him at Queensberry Lodge and fell ill of the plague.  He was nursed by Dr Rowland but died and was buried at Aldenham nearby.

I would like to contact any relations of Thomas Carlyle Parkinson to see whether they have any more information about this.
