Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to search for the above area? As yet, it doesn't appear to have been digitized, Family Search informed me it is in the process but will be some time.
I have quite a bit of information of my ancestors while they were in Wales as in the 1939 census and some probate info etc and knowledge from recent members of the family but as you can imagine I want some more.  I'm aware that there are Family Search centers in the UK but as I don't speak Italian was wondering was there another way?

Any information would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Joanne

Shropshire / David Francis Clun Shropshire
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 10:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for any guidance on David Francis, wife Susannah (James).

David died in Clun, Shropshire in 1784 buried 20th January 1784 and also his wife on the same date -paupers.  (I have this info from the Shropshire Family History Society transcripts)

They married on the 5th of February 1724 and as far as I am aware had five children
Elizabeth 1725
John 1731
Mary 1735
Susan 1740
Benjamin 1743 (My 6 times Grt Grandfather)

I want to know where he haled from, his wife Susannah was from the Mainstone Shropshire and baptised in 1702 so I'm thinking David was around the same age - with his death being in 1784 he would have been a big age then for those days so I don't feel that he would have been a great deal older that her.

If anyone has any ideas I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Jane Bowen Montgomeryshire
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 12:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

After some years of trying to find my Grt x2 Grandmother Jane Bowen I've run out of places to search and require, if possible, some help.

I have gone down all the usual lines of research by using Ancestry, Find my past, Family search, Genuki and various others and have found some information but she seems a very elusive lady.

If I share the information I have, maybe someone would be able to help me  :)  I apologise for the length of info but without it it's very difficult to explain.

Alice Bowen my Grt Grandmother was born in The Union Workhouse, Caersws, Montgomeryshire 10/05/1884.  Her Mother Jane entered the workhouse due to her pregnancy on 05/04/1884, her occupation a servant and her year of birth 1863.  Jane remained there until shortly after Alice's birth.  (I have this information from the register at Montgomeryshire County Hall)

The next document I have is Alice's Baptism which took place at Lydham, a small village in Shropshire just over the Montgomeryshire border.
Alice was baptised on the 15/07/1884 Jane's abode was the "Pentre" (area in Churchstoke, Montgomeryshire) and is described as a single woman.

As the story goes, Jane was unable to look after her daughter at this time and was
forced to put Alice with a foster family in the village of Churchstoke, Montgomeryshire.  The family were the Trow family and I believe often took in children in these circumstances.  Alice I don't think was adopted but she acquired a different name; she became known as Bessie Trow.
I know what happened to Alice my Grt Grandmother but it's her mother Jane that I'm struggling with.

If Jane is telling the truth that she was born in 1863 the only one I can find on the GRO birth index which fits the area is a Jane Bowen born in Q4 1863 to a mother of the maiden name Andrews.  I have found a marriage to a Thomas Bowen in Q2 1863 to Elizabeth M Andrews again this fits.  I also have a baptism for Jane 03/01/1864 which makes me think perhaps her birthday was in December??
Jane is the first child according to the dates there are siblings.

After Alice's baptism I can find nothing, I'm told that Jane came back for her daughter when she was able to care for her but Alice wouldn't go, I'm also told that Jane married and was known as Granny Coxall.  The spelling of this name is on the back of an old photograph whether it's correct I'm not sure.  I believe she had a daughter referred to as Pollie and that she moved to Stroud in  Gloucestershire, I don't know her husbands name or anything else. I can find no marriage from a Bowen to a Coxall (or any other version of this name) although I did find a marriage from a Jane Bowen to a Bather then a Coxall but I don't think it's the right Jane.

I know she was alive in around 1924 as there is a photograph of her and my Grt Uncle.

If anyone has any advise or knowledge that could help in finding Jane I can't tell you how grateful I would be.

Kind regards

Joanne Davies

Hello,

I would like to ask for any help or advice on my latest brick wall and would be terribly grateful for any feedback.  My Grt, Grt Grandfather John Davies (no mention of a middle name in any documentation I have seen so far.)

He died in Montgomeryshire 03/11/1936 aged 78 - I know this as I have seen the monumental plinth in Mochdre Church yard.
This suggests his birth year is 1858 depending on what month he was born.

His marriage certificate (which I was able to order recently through previous help from RootsChat) states he was 22 on the 28/01/1882 a coachman at Bryncoch, Mold (His Father Evan a labourer, his wife Mary Anne Dykins)
This suggests his birth year was 1860 again depending on what month he was born.

1881 census taken on 03/04/1881 he is aged 21 a coachman birth Tregeiriog, Denbighshire
This suggests his birth year was 1860 depending on month born.

1891 census taken 05/04/1891 he is aged 32 a coal miner in higher Kinnerton, Flintshire
Birth year 1859 and place Tregeiriog Denbighshre

1901 census taken 31/03/1901 he is aged 42 a coach man in Montgomeryshire
Birth year 1859 and place Tregeiriog Denbighshire

1911 census taken 02/04/1911 he is now aged 52 still a coachman
Birth year 1859 this time he has written birth place Llanarmon DC Denbighshire which I now know as the parish that Tregeiriog resides.

To my calculations I'm thinking he was born between 04/04/1859 and the 27/01/1860.

I've looked at the births in the Corwen district, as this is where I believe births were registered via the General records office at this time to try and find Mother's maiden name - I've narrowed it down to two one of Williams and a blank Mother's maiden name in the D or fourth quarter.

But still having difficulties as I don't know where his parents were married or her name - I have found an Evan Davies born in Llanarmon Dc on the 1851 census aged 21 estimated birth 1830 in  Ruthin but again I'm not having any luck.

I hope the information helps in some way to maybe getting some answers.
Thanks in advance
Joanne Davies  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Births/Baptisms Hope Flintshire
« on: Saturday 06 May 17 14:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi, this is my first try on Roots chat - it looks great what I have seen so far.

I was wondering if there is anyone that could possibly help me in searching for my Great Grandfather's birth registration district? I'm finding difficulty in pin pointing a correct area.

He was born in 1889/1890 by my calculation

David William Davies 1891 census age 1 birth year 1890 place of birth Penyfordd, Flintshire, Wales
1901 census age 11 birth year 1890 place of birth Hope, Flintshire, Wales
1911 census age 21 birth year 1890 place of birth Hope, Flintshire, Wales

He was one of twelve and according to the 1911 census he had a sibling that died but I have no name of that brother or sister or when it happened.

His parents were John and Mary Anne Davies (Anne) (Ann) (A) three variations - I'm struggling to find a marriage for his parents but still trying.

His Father was born in Llanarmon DC/Tregeiriog Denbighshire - (This is giving me the same issues also of district registration)

His Mother born in Mold, Flintshire.

David William's elder sister's (Elizabeth A, Sarah E and Katie) were born in Mold, Flintshire and I have found baptisms easily.

His younger bother's and sister's were born in Newtown, Montgomeryshire and have I their births/baptisms.  It seems the place Penyfordd (Pen-y-fordd) is a road in the parish of Higher Kinnerton - although Hope comes up on some searches it isn't my family.

I have been researching districts etc and it seems that Higher Kinnerton is in the parish of Hope, it also mentions Dodleston, Cheshire.

So, I tried searching David William his elder sister Harriet Anne and younger brother John Robert (All born in Hope Flintshire) - in Cheshire and I have found all three but unfortunately no baptisms.

All years of birth on census records are a year higher than what I've found on Find my past but could work out if I try and calculate the age against which month the census was taken and which quarter.

To conclude, I want to find out if Hope births could have come under the registered area of Chester, Cheshire.

I'm not sure should I have put all this information on my request but sort of had to explain my issue.

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Joanne Davies
