Missing information that would confirm these two individual are one and the same.

The Kilham Register of 1813-1891 has him baptized there on November 13th, 1820 . "Son of John and Mary Pinder"
I  also have a Samuel Pinder Baptized in Kilham on 4 March 1816 to a John Pinder & Mary from the  "England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975"

The Burton Agnes Register has his Banns dated March 18th 1843,  a Samuel Pindar, son of John Pindar, farmer Pindar. It also states that he is from Burton Agnes, but I find no entry of his birth or baptism here.

Are these two people one and the same?

Well, as it turns out, I'm going on vacation to England mid June,  and thought of spending a few days in the area where my paternal lineage is from.  Incredibly, I found a Air BandB right in the center of my search area,  Kilham, UK.

Here is my question to you: What are the possibilities of finding out what parcel of land my Great-Great-Great-Grandpa came from, and more importantly, how to go about it?
The only definite document i have, other than those that I have dug up via research at Ancestry.ca) is his prorate that I purchased.

I am positive this is the same John Pinder that is in my family tree. It's content matches up with the correct names of his son's and daughters, as well as his son-in-law which married Mary Pinder, Stephen Bennison.  The problem is of course, it details much of what is being willed to whom, but not where this property is.

Herein is what I know about John Pinder.
May have been born & Baptized on the 29th July in Snaith, Yorkshire .
Documents have him as John Pindar).

Married 11 Dec. in Kilham to Jane Beilby (1725-1804)
Had three sons & 3 daughters;
John     (1749-1843) Named in will as an executor. Also named as the eldest son in the Will
William (1752-1826) Named in will as an executor
Robert (1758-1830)
Mary    (1760-1844) Married Stephen Bennison named in Will)
Jane     (1761-1796)
Ann     (1765-1766)

This is what I know, or have been able to research so far.
Is there any way I could figure out exactly where in Kilham their farm  might have been?
I understand that Kilham was a parish, am I correct ? It might not necessarily referring to the village, but I would expect it to be in the immediate area, no?

Anyways, would love any assistance in this matter!

Thanks in advance,

Stephen Pinder

Family History Beginners Board / Mapping the wrong Pinder branch?
« on: Friday 07 July 17 18:08 BST (UK)  »
I'm well into mapping my family tree, at this point working on a Thomas Pinder Born 1825-Bridlington-Yorkshire D1876 Married to a Mary Pinder (1821-1901). And that's where things went south. I was trying to determine the maiden name of this Mary Pinder. Someone's tree pointed to a Mary Sawton, but their tree points to the father of Thomas Pinder as being a Roger Pinder, and not a John Pinder (B1802-D1842) Baptized in Kilham. That put the whole lineage in question.

Here is what the line looks like from my research:
(-The key or touchstone person here is Stephen Pinder (B1803 in Kilham D1882, Ontario, Canada. Married to a Mary Ann Coulson). His brother (should) be John Pinder, mentioned below). Stephen Pinder is my Great-Great Grandfather

John Pinder (B1716 Snaith) D-1797) + Jane Beiley (1725-1804)
John Pinder (B1749 Kilham-D1843) + Mary Clark (B1773 Kilham - D ?  )
John Pinder (B1802 Baptized Kilham - D 1842) + Alice Leadley (B1802 - Kilham - D1884)
Thomas Pinder (B1825-Bridlington D 1876) + Mary Sawton

The other persons tree breaks down in the following manner:

Roger Pinder B1729 - Barmston - D?)  + Catherine Donkin (B1737-D1813)
William Pinder (B1766-Burton Agness D1841) + Jane Deighton  (B1768 - Gristhorpe D1872)
Roger Pinder (B1796 Rudston - D1865) + Harriet Sampson (B1796-Bridlington D 1872)
Thomas Pinder (B1825-D1876 + Mary Sawton (1821- Barmston-D1901)>

Two things that have me concerned about my tree: John Pinder 1716-1797 is showing as being born in Snaith.. that's a bit of a ways from Kilham.

The other thing is John Pinder (B1802 Baptized Kilham - D 1842): Someone here provided a photo (Headstone) of John Pinder  https://1drv.ms/i/s!AifC60WL0cSMuWSFvmZqD3xHEDOh
It's inscribed on the headstone that Thomas died in 1866 in North America, but I cannot find any trace of it.

So, is my timeline correct? I'm particularly worried about the two first John Pinders .
And, is this Thomas Pinder the wrong Thomas?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

World War Two / Trying to confirm my father's squadron
« on: Tuesday 04 July 17 16:45 BST (UK)  »
I have some conflicting information in my effort to confirm what squadron my father was attached to during WW2.

Dec. 1941
My father,  J.M. Pinder,  was 20 years old when he was training as a Radio Mechanic at the University of Toronto, R.C.A.F. detachment. (Have class photo and recognize my dad in the photo).

The next two pieces of information come into conflict, although I have a hunch ..

Jan 3rd 1945:
Personal letter to my mother (a pen-pal at the time).
The information at the top of the letter points to a 600 Squadron, however this squadron was an RAF squadron, and not RCAF. (Royal Canadian Air Force)

https://1drv.ms/i/s!AifC60WL0cSMuWOLUVEomr9I4GBC

His letter mentions that he has been traveling extensively in the summer of '44:
"Just to give you an idea, I traveled 10 times and traveled nearly 4,000. miles by land and air! Most of the distance was taken up by two trips to Africa!"

This info. meshes well with the theater of operation of the  RCAF 417 squadron

1957:
the next hint is a pewter mug that was given to my dad back in 1957.
It was from the officers of the  RCAF 417 Squadron. It deads:

154023 F/L J.M. Pinder
2453 AC WS (Aux).
.. the latter being "Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron (Auxiliary).

Not sure what the "154023 F/L"  serial number and rank?

I have found subsequent links to the 2453 AC WS (Aux). and my father, so I do believe that was his unit.
http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/Pinetreeline/misc/ac&w/ac&w13k.html

If you do a "CTRL" + "F", JM Pinder comes up more than once. It's also based in my father's home town at the time (Trois_Rivieres, Quebec, Canada)

So, I suspect that the 2453 AC WS (Aux). was attached to different squadron's during the war?
But was the 2453 AC WS (Aux). attached to 417 at any time? How can I find that out, or where to look?

What does the "R-96944 LA. C."  stand for in the 1945 letter?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Stephen

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What county is this ?
« on: Thursday 29 June 17 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Trying to establish if this John Pinder baptised and died 1688,  is part of my family tree.
I came upon a FindMyPast document of a Yorkshire, bishop's transcripts of baptisms document. It indicates the parish or district as being Swine, but the image of the document seems to say something else  "????flow "? Anyone might have an idea what it might be so I can go on with my search in the right direction?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Need help with family letter
« on: Monday 26 June 17 12:08 BST (UK)  »
I have a family letter in which I have been able to transcribe, however there remains a few sections/words that are beyond me, or require a second opinion.
This letter is from Stephen Coulson in Bridlington, Yorkshire, to his daughter Mary Ann Coulson Pinder (1806-1886) in Ontario, Canada. the date is April 20th, 1853 . (May Ann Coulson married  Stephen Pinder (1803-1882)

There are names and places mentioned that either I cannot make out, or am not 100% sure.  In particular, there is a mention of a daughter of a William Pinder .  Now Stephen Pinder had a brother, William Pinder (1806-1886), married to an Elizabeth Broadrick, and had a daughter, Ellen.  But other than the fact that she was born in 1838, I have no other information.
Or... Stephen Pinder's other brother, Jon (1802-1842). He had a son, William (1835) but I have no information on him. May have died in infancy.
This William Pinder and his daughter are just one of  many hints  that have been elusive to track down .
Anyways, here is my transcription and a link to the original.

"Bridlington, April 20th 1853

I cannot find any further detail on May Pinder, Born 1840 Kilham area. Father was Stephen Pinder (B1803-1882), Mother is Mary Ann Coulson  (b1806-1886).
Mary Pinder is in the 1841 and 1851 England census, but that's where I lose the trail. The family emigrated to Canada around 1853, but there is no trace of her in Canadian records either.

Family History Beginners Board / Stephen Pinder (B1797 or 1803)
« on: Tuesday 13 June 17 20:36 BST (UK)  »
Greetings.  I am a first time poster, and delighted to find your site.
I have begun to research my family on my father's father side for a month or so. I knew almost nothing, but now am hip deep in distant Cousins, uncles aunts and so on!.  I have hit somewhat of a brick wall however, with my Great Great Grandfather, Stephen Pinder.  I cannot seem to find any information on his parents, if he had brother's or sisters, etc.  I did find a document pointing to a John Pinder being his father and a Mary Pinder, but I am not confident it's the same Stephen Pinder.

This is the information I have been able to gather so far.
Date of Birth. Judging by British or Canadian census records, he was born anywhere between 1795 and 1806. Also, a "Yorkshire, Archbishop of York Marriage licences index" (Marriage to Mary Ann Coulson) has him born in 1810 while another one (Marriage to Mary Ann Clough, more on that further down), has him born in 1805.
His place of birth is listed as Kilham, and the Parish is Bridlington.
He married in 1835 a Mary Ann Coulson  (B1806 in North Burton, Yorkshire). The place of marriage  is listed as Saint John and Saint Martin,Beverley,York,England.  Together, they had 5 children + 1* (John, Matilda, Elizabeth, Maria & Bennison) + *1 =  Adelaide Clough . Adelaide seems to be the daughter of Mary Ann Clough. From a different father, or perhaps from Stephen Pinder prior to his marriage with Mary Ann Coulson? Other records have her born in Scotland.
He seemed to have resided in Rudston or Hilderthorpe till he emigrated to Ontario, Canada in the early 1850's.

Within the Coulson family tree, Mary Ann Coulson's grandfather, Stephen Bennison, married a Mary   Pinder . I thought there might be a link there somehow, and attempted to circle around via Mary, but I could not find anything on her as well. I also noticed a fair number of Pinders in the Rudston area, but again, could not come up with anything substantial. (Also the use of Bennison as a given name in the Pinder family is rather strange.. I suspect a link here).

If anyone has any information or could assist, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks in advance.
