Angus (Forfarshire) / Perhaps a Relative
« on: Monday 08 February 16 10:52 GMT (UK)  »
When I visited the UK with my grandmother in 1949 and 1956 we spent a lot of time with a family called Cunningham they lived in the same building as my ggreat uncle David Brodie who died in 1953 I called them aunty Kathy and uncle Archie they had two daughters the eldest Kathie I think was about 8/10 years older than me and married a John Smith shifting to live in London. The younger one may have been called Margaret' and I think did Highland dancing she came to New Zealand to live for a couple of years probably in the very early 60's her husband and two little boys he had a job as a truck driver for the Dairy factory in Dannevirke. I have actually tried for years to find this family I wondered if someone could look on the Dundee electoral roll to see how long they stayed there or if they shifted. It would be nice to contact Kathy who was so patient with me spending time that I appreciated, but I just feel time is running out to find or meet with them again.

Essex / Whites in Essex
« on: Saturday 22 August 15 07:38 BST (UK)  »
My husbands White family William White and Mary Coates seemed have shifted back and forth through all the Walthams in Essex.

All except the oldest daughter a Hannah that married a Joseph Hiorns appear to have traveled with them to Australia and settled there.
Family members no longer seem to live in that area.

Do you think it would be a worthwhile exercise to actually try to follow the descendents of Mary Coates parents and William Whites parents to see where they ended up to get more of a handle on the family and their culture, perhaps see whether they emigrated overseas or stayed at home in other parts of England.

Has anyone else done this sort of exercise with their family and found it a satisfactory way to get information. ::)

James Low born about 1730 died about 1790 Forfar, Angus, Scotland. Is there a chance of someone being able to check the microfiche to see who he married and when, I wondered if an accident, plague or war was the cause at that time.

He is the father of my 4th great grandfather William Low Christened 12 Jun 1754 Forfar, Angus, Scotland death 1790

Family History Beginners Board / Problems moving forward and back
« on: Tuesday 18 August 15 06:23 BST (UK)  »
Well this problem might be because I have an old computer with less memory than modern day machines. This is what happens to me I key in a surname of interest and start to look at the pages one by one that download. I notice my chosen surname has 56 pages. At about page say 4 I see a message I want to look at so I copy the number down 164 I then continue on and maybe at about four message 265 could be a possibility for me then I continue on to to page 5 and pick up that 477 might also be a source of interest. I cannot move forward to page 6 or even to page 5 to read the information of 477 when I go back to the find facility put the surname in plus the page number nothing happens.

when I had been to a different surname that only had a couple of pages previously and looked till I found something I thought might be useful. When I closed that page that took me to the persons query instead of taking me back to the list I found myself back at the home page what am I doing wrong?
I am just getting more and more confused.

Australia / Additional Information
« on: Wednesday 02 January 13 00:54 GMT (UK)  »
As marriage certificates before 1949 in NSW did not require the couple to put on information about their parents name, date of birth, what they did for a living, where they lived or were born can anyone suggest a way this information might be found if at all.

Angus (Forfarshire) / McGhee Family Brechin
« on: Saturday 21 July 12 02:23 BST (UK)  »
Would someone be kind enough to check this family out in the 1891 and 1901 census at Brechin.

I understand that a Henry Mcghee and an Ann Murray had a son James born in 1869 in Brechin.

A James/John McGhee born 1904 was brought up by his grandmother in Brechin I am wondering if he may have been the grandson of the above couple.

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / Wilson wife Jannet baby Mary Douglas
« on: Sunday 22 October 06 04:12 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the ship that my great uncle Wilson Douglas traveled on to New Zealand with his wife and daughter Probably any time from 1875 to 1878 they ended up living at Rongotea a place inland from Foxton it might have been called Campbelltown at the time. The probability is that they either went there from Wellington Foxton or Wanganui. They may have travelled via America as it was considered a shorter passage at that time also.

Cheers Heather
