Sussex Lookup Requests / Death Henry Hamper, c. 1833 to 1841, Westmeston
« on: Monday 07 August 17 06:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi Again,

This is linked to my previous post. Henry Hamper seems to disappear on me. He's not around for the 1841 census but most of his family is (Westmeston Parish, Lewes Chailey West Firle & Newhaven). Lydia, his spouse, is listed in subsequent census as "Widowed" (1851, "Widow of
Ag Lab").

Henry's last son William was baptised in September, 15th, 1833 so theoretically he was around up to January 1833 at least. As I mentioned, he is not in the 1841 census, nor does he return for any other.

I've done many death searchs for that time period but have not been able to come up with Henry within those dates. Well, one, but he would have been 74 in 1834!! Not impossible, but not likely.

All of my sources are 3rd party. I have not seen the original documents yet.

Thanks for looking!

Hello All,

New member from Canada and fairly new to genealogy. I've made a lot of headway, but I'm a little stuck and I'm not sure if what I'm looking for even exists.

I've established that Henry married Lydia Juniper, 4th, November, 1823 in Westmeston, Sussex. However, it's little more than a registration, just their names, no witnesses, no parental names. I've previously used the various censuses and marriage documents to link and confirm other parentage for other couples, but obviously I've run out of censuses for this couple at this date :)

I suspect Lydia's parents are Samuel and Mary, but I can't confirm that.
I know their four children were all baptised in Westmeston: Henry, John, Emma and William.
