Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help. Deciphering. 1903 marriage cert Scotland
« on: Saturday 09 September 23 18:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Normally I can read most things but this has beaten me! Please find attached the marriage cert of my ancestor Robert Scott and his wife Elizabeth Eardly 1903 Glasgow (entry no. 277). I know he worked in an 'aerated water' factory with his father Robert which I can just make out on the certificate . If anyone can transcribe it, I would really appreciate it, particularly where exactly they were married. Thank you in advance

Family History Beginners Board / HELP. Birth of William CHEERS b 1857, Birkenhead
« on: Thursday 15 June 23 15:54 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a wall with my paternal Great Grandfather: William Cheers born c 1857, Birkenhead, Cheshire near Liverpool.
I can not find any evidence at all of William's birth in the registry or baptism record?

He is listed on the 1861 census aged 4 years, living at 16 Sun Street, Birkenhead with his mother Elizabeth (unmarried) and elder brother Henry age 7. They are living with her parents there.
I have the birth certificate for his brother Henry (born 28 Oct 1853 at 12 Birkenhead Buildings, Tranmere) however no father is listed, just mother Elizabeth.

As always any help or assistance will be gratefully received.

Family History Beginners Board / Help. William Thomas JONES death
« on: Saturday 27 May 23 11:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I am trying to find the death date/place of William Thomas JONES (b 27 Feb 1893). His wife was Rosina (nee Saunders, widow of Samuel Walker who died in the Great War).  William and Rosina married on 21 Dec 1919 and were living at 59 Tetley Street, Poplar in 1939. Rosina ‘Jones’ passed away in Riverside residential home, Roxhall Road, Barking in 1973, by then a widow. I can see that William Thomas Jones, labourer, must have died between 1939-73, and he seems too old to have fought in WW2? As far as I am aware they always both lived in Poplar district all their lives.
As always any help and guidance will be gratefully accepted.

I’m researching my ancestor, Charles Fisher, who according to the 1939 Register, was born on 18 Mar 1893, (employed as a clerk in the Civil Service )

I have a copy of his marriage certificate which shows he wed in the Register Office, Poplar, London on 2 Aug 1923 (age 30), occupation Assistant Relieving Officer. His father is listed as John Fisher (Dockyard Platelayer). They were living in Abbott Road, Poplar at the time.

Charles married Elizabeth G. Sutherland (age 32), living at East India Dock Road, Poplar. Her family had moved down from Scotland (they are on the 1911 London census living at same place), and her father, James  Sutherland, worked as a shipwright.

I cannot find him, (or his father and family) in the 1901 or 1911 or 1921 census with any certainty, which is what I would like to find out.  I also cannot find Charles’ birth registration or baptism, which is what I would like to find out  Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.

Hi everyone

I have been trying to locate the burial/cremation place of Frederick Morris. He was born 21 Dec 1895 in Salford and passed away 6 Oct 1974 in Oldham & District General Hospital.
His probate was much later on 29 Feb 1988.

He married twice, first to Ethel Lucas (12 Oct 1918 Salford) and later to her sister Emily in Sept 1973. Emily died 9 Dec 1987, Failsworth with probate 4 Feb 1988.

I have a copy of the death certificate which states he was living at Ashton Road, East Failsworth, Oldham, Lancashire at the time. His son, Robert Morris was the informant who lived in Shawlaugh, Rochdale.  I have contacted  Oldham district (which covers Failsworth), Rochdale and Salford cemeteries and they have no record of him? As always, any help or guidance will be much appreciated. It all seems a mystery.
