London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Vernon in Islington
« on: Thursday 07 March 13 14:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am becoming very confused with this one!  A birth certificate for Harry George William Vernon born 11 Feb 1907 gives father as Harry James Vernon, piano forte fitter and mother as Sarah Amy Vernon, formerly Cook.  Address 20 Manor Gardens, Islington.

In 1911 I have found the family with Sarah Amy listed as Amy, married, 43, born Birmingham stating she has been married for 19 years and has had 6 children, 3 living.  Children with her are Emma 18, Nellie 13, and Harry 5.

I believe that both the father and mother may have been married before, but I can only find a marriage for a Sarah Amy Cook to George Edwin Bolton in 1887.  Can't find the family as Bolton or  Vernon in 1901.

Where is daddy Vernon? Can't find a birth or marriage.  Help please.
Thanks
Tracy

Hi
Really stuck on this one and it is a bit complicated.

Annie Ellen Shepherd is the daughter of Joseph Shepherd and appears on the 1901 census (RG13/225 f98 f51).  The wife of Joseph is Jane (formerly Hopping) nee Serjeant.  Jane married Henry Hopping in 1861, appears with him on 1871 census with no children in 1871 and is a widow by 1881 with two children - Henry aged 8 and Charles aged 5.  Her lodger in 1881 is Joseph Shepherd.

However, Joseph and Jane married 27th December 1891 and Joseph claims to be a batchelor.  Which would mean that the children appearing with them in 1901 (Emily 19, Alfred 17 and Annie 15), were all born before that marriage.

The 1891 census may shed some light on whether Jane is the mother or whether there was someone else involved.  Would like to find 1891 before I order the cert if poss.

Can anyone see them please?

Essex / Richell/Richel/Rickel in Essex
« on: Friday 16 November 12 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

Having trouble with this one.  Trying to help a friend where she has become stuck and now I am too!

George Richel married Sarah Rawlins in 1869 in Dunmow, Essex.

George's parents were John Richell b 1811 and Jane b 1816 (census date) both born Dunmow, Essex.  Can only see them on 1841, 1861, 1881  and, more importantly, cannot find a marriage.  Tried every trick I can think of but with so many mis-spellings of the name have come up blank.  Richell is sometime Richel, Rickel, Rickell and all of these may have an s on the end.

Can someone cleverer than me find anything please  :)

Many thanks
Tracy

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / WRIGHT - Kathleen c1876
« on: Thursday 21 June 12 13:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Searching for birth or census record (prior to marriage) for Kathleen/Katherine/Catherine Veronica Wright.

I have her first marriage in 1898 to Ernest Van der Hoeven in Pancras using the name KATHLEEN Veronica Wright.  They had two daughters Dorothy and Nellie (from the 1901 census).  He died in 1900. She then married Frederick Love in 1903 in Hampstead using the name CATHERINE Veronica Van der Hoeven and had further children.  She uses the name KATE on the 1901 and 1911 census.

However, I cannot find any birth record in any of the above names.  I also can't identify her prior to her marriage on any of the previous census documents.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi

Can anyone find Katherine Veronica Wright on the census? I can only see her on the 1911 census when she was on her second marriage to Frederick Love.

She was born about 1876.  She married in 1898 to Ernest Van der Hoeven, who then died in 1900.  She remarried in 1903 to Frederick Love.  First marriage her name is given as Kathleen, second marriage as Catherine and on the 1911 census with Frederick, as Kate.

I also cannot find her birth record.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / MILLINGTON and FOSH on 1861 census
« on: Friday 10 December 10 13:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Trying to find James Millington and Margaret Fosh in the 1861 census.  James married Margaret Fosh in 1877 in Tring, Herts although I have them on the 1871 census staying at an Inn in Luton as James Millington and wife Margaret Millington already parents to Ellen aged 2!  Two of Margaret's brothers are there, Cornelious and William Fosh. (RG10/1573 f70 p26)

Can't find either of them in 1861.  James sometimes said place of birth was Maidstone, kent and other times Bedfordshire.  Margaret was born in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. James' father was John, a hairdresser and Margaret's father was William, a Tinker.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Census and Resource Discussion / Free Access to 1911
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 09:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I don't know if this has already been posted or not, but I was surprised (and delighted) to find on a recent trip to the National Archives that there is free access to the 1911 census.

I know not everyone can get there easily, but it might be worth the trip.

When you arrive, you book a computer for a specific time and off you go!  Free access to transcriptions and actual pages.  If you find what you want, you can print the page for 20p.

Apologies if this has already been posted.
