Westmorland / Fothergill History by Richard Fothergill
« on: Monday 10 January 22 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I’m trying to track down a copy of this history ‘The Fothergills, a 1st History’ and also, a ‘2nd History’. Author Richard Fothergill. The second one was published 2001. I can’t find any references to copies of the first. The second is available online for £150 😨
Nothing found in my local library. But I’m in Devon, England. So there may be copies in Westmorland and/or Yorkshire libraries, but Worldcat doesn’t show them.
I have about five lines of Fothergills from Yorkshire and Westmorland, which I think must connect somewhere.. and probably back to Ravenstonedale. But struggling to find comprehensive records. R’dale transcripts are online at FindMyPast, but I can’t make the search facility work. If indeed it is properly searchable.
Looked at the local Ravenstonedale online sites too.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Jane

Lancashire / Southport Congregational Church, Chapel Street
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 18:17 GMT (UK)  »
This Church/Chapel closed in 1963 and was demolished. Last year I found somewhere online a list of gravestone removals to Duke Cemetery, where I assume remains were reinterred. The list gave the name of the funeral director in Liverpool responsible for the exhumations. I know there is a reference to this Chapel in Lancashire Archives online catalogue (Lancat) but that is not where the list came from. I stupidly did not make a note of where I found it. I took a screenshot of the top of the page and a few names, but I really want the rest of the list. I think I assumed I’d get to the Archive. But I don’t live nearby and Covid has now put a stop to travel.
I’m hoping someone can shed light on this mystery.

The Common Room / North Meols Parish, Lancashire
« on: Sunday 01 March 20 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I know a few people here are interested in this Parish because I've had contact with you in the past. I've recently joined a few FaceBook Groups for technical help with DNA tests. There is a Lancashire Group too that I joined and just the last couple of days North Meols has come up. Several people in the post have surnames from the Parish. Someone has suggested that I (!!) set up a North Meols Facebook group. I'm just wondering if I did would anyone be interested? I notice that the official North Meols FHS group last post was 5 Oct 2017. The Forum has gone and the Society does not seem to be active though I believe they still have an annual meeting. If they couldn't keep going does this mean there is not enough interest to sustain a group?
Feedback much appreciated.

Technical Help / Mac Document structure confusion
« on: Friday 08 February 19 08:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.
I’m hoping someone can help with a mess I’ve somehow made of my document folder structure. I have somehow ended up with two of them. They are not identical and stuff sometimes gets saved to one or the other because they are both called ‘Documents’. Sometimes I can’t find things and the only way is to use Spotlight. I’ve tried fixing it and given up. I thought it didn’t matter .. nuisance rather than anything else. But when I went to export a bit of my Tree from FTM as GEDCOM something weird happened. The filepath name in the GEDCOM starts with a folder that has nothing directly to do with the tree, though it does contain  some images that are attached to various people in the tree. (I have that folder showing on my sidebar as a reminder of who has the originals.) but there are plenty of other folders containing images attached to people in FTM. So what is going on? Is this somehow related to my double document folders?
Would it help to merge both folders?

Can anyone help out with an absolutely infuriating problem I have with using the Publish facility with FTM 2017 please? I know how to create a chart or report when I start with a blank template. But, then I can't get rid of the 'old' template! I made a vertical pedigree chart, added loads of text and images specific to the individual at the base of the chart. It looked great, printed it out .. bingo. I did 'save chart' because I worried it might get deleted somehow before I got around to printing. And anyway, that isn't the same surely as 'save settings'. But now, when I go to produce a pedigree chart for a new individual, FTM uses the last chart as a template. I have to delete all the images and text and start reformatting. This is ridiculous. I thought there was an option to highlight and delete but that deleted 49 people from my tree. Grrrr... Help!!

Lancashire / Baptism dues paid
« on: Monday 10 September 18 12:32 BST (UK)  »
I have a Baptism in 1747 at North Meols, Lancashire. There is a note added to the register (contemporary) to say ‘dues paid’. This is the only child in the whole register who has this note. The couple had a child baptised 2 years earlier and no such note was added.
Any idea what this might mean?
This question was asked in 2010 but the answers then don’t work for my baptism because the dates when such dues were paid are outside the date above.

Flintshire / FindMyPast Index for Flintshire
« on: Wednesday 15 November 17 08:35 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone explain how FindMyPast have indexed the bmd Registers, particularly around Northop, Flint and Mold?
If I search Flintshire Marriages 1700s/early 1800s, why do I get results that are indexed for Connah’s Quay, Bagilt, Bistre, Hawarden, Whitford etc.. ? Specifically I have one for 21 Setp 1828 Edward Griffith and Mary Ellis which is indexed for Connah’s Quay, Northop. But there wasn’t a church in CQ at that time.  I assumed the marriage took place at Northop. An enquiry to Flintshire Record Office confirmed this from their Hayes Index. So why does FindMyPast say Connah’s Quay? There are no clues in the Register to place of residence, not even a ‘hamlet’.
The same applies to burials and christenings .. the Index gives place names that are not mentioned in the Register. The residence places that are named are ones you’d expect like Soughton, Caerfallwch etc. Maybe those are the ‘hamlets’ nearest to the place names they have used. But in my specific example there are no clues to residence whatsoever.
I keep finding this when I think the only possible place the event can have taken place is St. Eurgain, Northop or either of the two Parish churches in Mold And Flint (both St. Mary).
Where do FindMyPast find the evidence to use village names in their Index when there appears to be no evidence in the Register.
Sorry if I’m being dim... but this has been puzzling me for some while. If I could see the front page/cover of the Registers it might help to explain this but I haven’t worked out a way to do that without scrolling back dozens of pages every time.
