Roscommon / Can I find butcher in County Roscommon with the surname Audley
« on: Tuesday 17 December 19 12:19 GMT (UK)  »
I have a John Audley who entered Alms House Hospital in New York aged 73 in January 1894. The record of his entry states that he was born in County Roscommon Ireland and that his father was a Butcher Unfortunately the record does not give his fathers name.

I know from other American records that John’s wife was called Catherine Madden and they emigrated from Ireland, arriving in America in October 1851 with a young son. John Audley is recorded in the US censuses as being a blacksmith.

I believe they had two sons before emigrating to America both Christened at Kilteevan, Roscommon, Ireland namely a John Audly (sic) christened 5th May 1848 ( I believe he died before the family emigrated) and a Francis Audly (sic) christened 28th September `1850, who emigrated with his parents to America and it is this Francis Audley who is recorded on his fathers admission papers to to the Alms House Hospital.

I know John Audley had a father who was a butcher. Can any body guide me to how I would find a Butcher in County Roscommon Ireland, who had the Audley surname or a variant spelling of that surname?

Thanks for any help

Cork / What newspaper is referenced as CMC
« on: Saturday 22 September 18 11:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,
I am looking at marriages and deaths on the website:
https://corkgen.org/publicgenealogy/cork/potpourri/corkancestors.com/Deathsmarriages.htm

I am interested in a marriage referenced as (CMC 16/6/1802) (marriage Audley to Blair)

Clearly 16/6/1802 is the date but what is the publication referenced as CMC?

Are there archives somewhere of CMC so that I can check if the original has more information?

Thanks for your help

Australia / Emily Audley died Victoria, Australia in 1893
« on: Tuesday 31 July 18 20:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I can see from the Victoria State Death Indexes that an Emily Audley died in 1893 her father is given as William Audley and Mother Mary Griffin.

I believe that this Emily Audley was born 6th August 1819 and Christened 22nd September 1819 at St Philip's church in Birmingham, England. I know this Emily Audley was living in Marylebone, London, England a Dressmaker in 1851.

Can anybody please tell me when she emigrated from England to Australia and anything about her life in Australia?

Thanks for your help

Armed Forces / Soldier in Dover 1903 to 1904
« on: Thursday 21 June 18 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Can someone advise how I find out about a particular soldier who was in Dover in 1903 to 1904 His name was William Audley.

I know very little about him other than he had a daughter Gladys Winifred Audley.

Gladys Winifred Audley: her birth was registered in Q1 1904 in Dover her mothers maiden name is recorded as French.
She was baptised at St Bartholomew's Church Dover on the 7th February 1904 and her parents were recorded as William Audley, a soldier & Emily Elizabeth Audley (although I doubt that they were married)

The mother of Gladys Winifred Audley married as Emily Elizabeth French in Q4 1907 to Leonard William Sage. in Watford

In the 1911 census Gladys Winifred Audley was living in Hertfordshire described as step daughter with Leonard W Sage and Emily E Sage.

Can someone please advise how I find our something about Gladys Winifred Audley's father William Audley who was a soldier.

Thanks in anticipation of your help

Kent / Help please to find a Kent Baptism
« on: Sunday 13 May 18 18:41 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody advise me whether parish baptism records for Kent are available on any website for the period 1904 to 1905?
The particular  baptism I would like to find is that of Gladys Winifred Audley whose birth was registered in Q1 1904 in the Dover Registration District. Her mother's maiden name is given in the GRO index as French. ( I do not have a copy of her birth certificate).  Her death was registered in Q4 1912 aged 8 at Watford.

I initially assumed that Gladys was the (pre-marriage) daughter of Joseph Audley and Emma Mary Ann French who married 26th December 1904 at St Agnes Church, Newington, Southwark.

BUT I then discovered Gladys aged 7 in the 1911 Census described as step daughter living at Toms Lane, Bedmond, Hartfordshire.
The head of the family is a Leonard W Sage aged 23; his wife is Emily E Sage aged 27 she indicates that she had been married for 3 years; There is a son Leslie L Sage aged 3 and Gladys W Audley aged 7 born Dover. She is originally described as daughter then amended to step daughter.

Leonard W Sage married Emily Elizabeth French in Q4 1907 at Watford. Hence Emily's maiden name is the same as the mother's maiden name on Gladys' birth registration.

Having just found Gladys in the 1911 census. I would like to find her baptism record in an attempt to identify her father. (I have not  as yet obtained a copy of her birth certificate.)

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Isle of Man / Did they die in the Isle of Man
« on: Thursday 01 February 18 22:17 GMT (UK)  »
I have the following two people (brother and sister) living in 1939 (according to the 1939 registers) at 51 Oxton Street, Liverpool:
John W Winstanley born 17 September 1873 single a retired postman and
Eliza M Barnett born 20 February 1879 a widow.

I have been trying to identify where and when they died. The best options I can identify are:
Eliza Mary Barnett Death year 1963 aged 84 therefore born  1879  Residence and  Registration District Douglas, Isle of Man Volume 473 page 3809
John William Winstanley Death year  1947 aged 73 therefore born 1874 Residence and Registration District Douglas, Isle of Man  volume 173 page 2909

I know their parents married in 1867 in Douglas IOM., so speculate that they may have moved to the Isle of Man to get out of Liverpool in WW 2.

Can any body suggest how I can prove my theory is correct?
Thanks for your help

United States of America / Help with the 1910 US Federal Census please
« on: Saturday 25 November 17 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
I have the following details of the bride from Massachusetts, Marriage Records:

Date of marriage: 27th July 1910
Name of Bride: Agnes M Keep  ( I think there is an error in her surname; see father's surname)
Age: 22
Number of marriages: first
Residence at time of marriage: 5 Larch Place, Boston
Occupation: Shirt Waist Maker
Place of Birth: Bangor, Maine
Father: Patrick Keefe (slightly different surname from bride)
Mother : Mary E Tobin

Can anybody please tell me who was living at 5 Larch Place Boston in the 1910 US Federal Census which I believe was taken on 15th April 1910. (three months before the marriage)

I have not given details of the groom as I have him in the 1910 US Federal Census and I have the couple in the 1920, 1930 & 1940 censuses.

I also suspect that the bride may have had a daughter in 1908, hence my reason for wanting to find her in the 1910 census as this should either prove or disprove this theory

Many thanks for your help
