Limerick / Sinann and myluck!
« on: Friday 27 April 18 15:46 BST (UK)  »
It is April, 27 and in 5 days I will be on my first Ireland adventure.
To the two of you, I say thank you, for all your help and extreme patients, guiding me through my roots.

You can be proud of all that you do on this forum and know that I will be thinking of you, as I wander about.

Grateful, I am.
Be well.

Tim.

Limerick / Rathkeale street addresses
« on: Monday 26 February 18 21:46 GMT (UK)  »
Rather than tack this onto my other lengthy thread and have it so far down the well, it might be missed, here goes;,
I am trying to pinpoint a Rathkeale building address, 100 Main Street, that would have existed in 1880.

Google streets shows no address numbers and the town of Limerick has not gotten back to me.

Some of you have produced old survey maps and I'm hoping there might be data somewhere that I can attach to a current building.

As an aside, I am aware of the demographic of Rathkeale and that is irrelevant.

Thanks for your assistance.

Dublin / Blackrock College
« on: Thursday 23 November 17 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Leinster Schools Challenge Cup (BCFC) medal given to my grandfather in 1893/94. The 1901 Census lists my grandmother’s two brothers, one a student the other a clergyman, as residents of Blackrock.

I am told there is a hall, dedicated to BCFC and as part of my May ’18 trip to Ireland I would like to be able to visit the college; perhaps see evidence of grandfather’s attendance.

I have contacted BC administration and BC Union for advice and have had no reply.

Any tips for me on how to get someone’s attention or where else to look?

Cork / What was Georges St changed to?
« on: Thursday 09 November 17 21:43 GMT (UK)  »
If any of you were around in 1877 surely you can help me.
I have a birth record showing 20 George's Street.

Depending how Google it I get either Plunkett St or Sullivan's Quay.

Anyone have definitive answer?

No hurry.

Armed Forces / Boer Imperial Yeomanry
« on: Monday 06 November 17 00:00 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather, from Dublin, was a Yeoman, if that is the right and proper word, in the Boer War.

I have found good civilian records but come up empty on his service.

Can anyone direct me to where I might glean something without cost?

He also played in the Leinster Schools Challenge Cup at Blackrock in 1893-94. I've contacted Blackrock with no response.

Thank you for any assistance.

Tim.

Limerick / Careys of Rathkeale 1880s
« on: Sunday 05 November 17 23:40 GMT (UK)  »
Locating my grandfather in Dublin took about an hour via 1901 census and I can street view the very door, behind which, he was born.

His wife, my grandmother has been a challenge:

Helena Mary Claire Carey
Born Nov 02 1879
Born Rathkeale (Limerick)
Father James
Mother Margaret (O’Malley)
Emmigrated to Canada pre 1910
Also known as Eileen or Aileen.

The above information was obtained from her Canadian burial records.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tim
