Fife / David Herd - went to Australia and then onto New Zealand
« on: Sunday 27 June 21 04:05 BST (UK)  »
My 3x great grandfather Archibald Herd/Hird 1800-1880,  had a brother called James Blair Herd, 1798-1879, whose two sons, David and Alexander, went to Australia and on to New Zealand where they settled.  David married a girl called Hellen or Helen in Scotland and they travelled on the Ticonderoga with a small baby.  Must have been very difficult.  Anyways she died at age 14 in New Zealand.  What I am trying to find out is just where in Scotland they sailed from or at least where they were living in Scotland?  Believe they left Scotland in 1850's.

Can anyone help me out?  I live in Canada so the research in New Zealand is coming from other people.

It seems there was another David Herd who travelled to New Zealand and trying to see where he fits in - if at all - with my family.

Lancashire / Thomas Smith m. Mary Wood 2 July, 1876
« on: Saturday 10 April 21 17:44 BST (UK)  »
Finally got a lead on my Thomas Smith.  it looks like this might be him so am wondering if you can help me here.

Thomas Smith b 2 July 1850 to Laurence & Adrerina Smith in Shetland.  He married a Mary Wood 2 July 1876 in Blade (near Manchester) in Lancashire England.  Can you help me find his marriage and some census information after his marriage?  Need to prove this is the correct Thomas with the correct Laurence Smith father. ;)

Thomas is the only Smith in this family that i have never been able to trace.  No on in Shetland seems to know what happened to him and have been looking for his whereabouts for over 20 years.

This man was born in 1854 in Shetland to a Laurence Smith and Anderina Yonson/Eunson.  It appears there is a Thomas Smith shown in Hulme and wondering if anyone can spot spot him.

There are many Laurence/Lawrence Smiths b. in Shetland so need to see if this is the correct man.

How would I go about getting a marriage certificate for this man?  Would it show his mother and father?

This is a copy of part of the birth or baptism of Gryphon Nicol b. to James Nicol

This picture came from SCOTLAND'S PEOPLE originally.

I cannot make out where the father came from or who signed the document.

Am looking for information on a James Nicol b. before 1738 possibly in Carymillia, Angus?
This is what I have:
Jessie Nicol b. 1851 to Alexander Nicol and Isabelle Shand Nicol
Alexander Nicol b. 1838 to David Griffith Nicol.
David Griffith Nicol b. to Gryphin Nicol 1769 and his father being
perhaps a John or James Nicol b. before 1738.  Am looking for this man.
I show him married to a Christina Wear but unsure of this.  John or James appeared to have 2 or 3 wives but unsure of that as there could have been two of them.

My Great Greatmother Jessie Nicol married a Hird/Herd and came to Canada in 1872.  I know that David Griffith Nicol was buried in the large cemetery in Stl Vigians by his father Gryphin Nicol from the graveyard there.  Can anyone shed any light on this family?

England / Cumbria
« on: Thursday 30 May 19 21:24 BST (UK)  »
Am not sure where this is, but Thomas Dodd  (b. 1814  supposedly Cumbria - d 1899 US) was apparently born there to an Adam Dodd and his wife Agnes Biggins.  I a taking a wild guess with the date, but think they were probably born about 1790 (only a guess).

If anyone can help me find Adam Dodd and his wife Agnes Biggins would be most appreciative.

This man lived in Aberdeen.  His wife was Maggie Belle (Ella) Bennett maiden name of Mitchell.  Have found her burial spot but cannot find his.  Was told he used to work with the docks?  He was born in 1888 or so I am told.  Can not find any mention of him.  Can anyone help?

Norman V Smith sent his sister a couple of letters which I received when she died.  This letter is very clear but cannot read the PS in the back of the last page.  Can anyone help?
