I am not sure where to post this. Photo of my grandfather Edward Fitzgerald Moroney 1874 to 1954. Born in Leeds. In 1906 he is listed  in the London Gazette as working as a ship surveyor for the Board of Trade.
He looks quite young here. I wondered what the uniform is- maybe not military.
Any ideas?

Attached photo by Fielding, Harehills Corner Leeds. I have Moroney and Wall relatives from Leeds. Would this be a wedding photograph or portrait of married couple or betrothed? Any idea of date? Is there any archive for this studio?
I did think it was of Mary Moroney b 1873 from Leeds(ish) and her husband Gregory Hector Bishop but I have no evidence.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Family History Beginners Board / Hospital Census Records 1911
« on: Thursday 17 January 19 09:41 GMT (UK)  »
Were hospital inmates recorded in 1911 census?
I have drawn  a blank in my search on Ancestry for Ann Eliza Moroney nee Thomson b 1841ish in Oswestry. She died in June 1911 ìn tbe Workhouse Hospital, Elswick, Newcastle upon  Tyne. I have searched all her childrens census records and she does not appear at their addresses. As cause of death was "senility" and "syncope"  I am thinking she may have been in hospital  at the time of the 1911 census but I cannot fine any hospital census records.

Family History Beginners Board / Greifswald, Germany, Miller/Muller
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 10:03 BST (UK)  »
I have drawn a blank in my search for my great grandfather, John Herman Miller (Johann? Muller? Moller?). He was a 28 year old widower by 1885 when he married my great grandmother, Mary Glinnane, in Cardiff. From their marriage certificate, his father was Christian Miller. The 1891 UK census locates John Herman in Cardiff and his birthplace as Greifswald, Germany.
I would like to find details of his birth, first marriage, emigration to UK and his German family. No small task! I have searched ancestry and one or two of the more obvious German sites but found nothing. Any hints wold be greatly appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / Divorce

Where will I find divorce records for my ancestor? The divorce of Elizabeth Curtin and Joseph Patrick Curtin may have been in UK or Ireland between 1897-1917 and probably before 1911. I am a member of ancestry but I cannot find any divorce records on their database.
