Norfolk Lookup Requests / Marriages with different dates
« on: Thursday 23 July 20 03:27 BST (UK)  »
I have found, on Ancestry, the information that Samuel SMITH married Sophia WRIGHT on 23rd October 1803 at Diss, Norfolk. I have also found that Samuel SMITH married Sophia WRIGHT on 6th November 1803 at Diss, Norfolk.

Can anyone help me with an explanation for this, and/or how to access Norfolk parish registers to search for the church records please

Worcestershire / Business directories for Worcester 1940s and 1950s
« on: Wednesday 29 January 20 05:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find a violin maker with the name Abraham [someone] who worked in Worcestershire during the 1940s and 1950s. Can anyone give advice or help as to how to go about this please? Would there be any online sources I could access?

My Tudgey relatives referred to him as "Uncle Abe". But he could be a Wilks or a Young.

Thank you.

Essex / Descendants of William Brewster
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 05:41 BST (UK)  »
William Brewster married Sarah Smith in 1900 in Maldon. Can anyone tell me anything about their children/descendants? Or how to go about finding them? I think a descendant came to Australia at some stage. I'm very rusty re genealogy at present, not having done any for some time.

Berkshire / Thomas WEBB and son James
« on: Thursday 19 April 12 02:52 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for:

James Webb born circa 1793. I think he was baptised in Berks.

He may have been involved in with Arborfield Mill, of which Thomas WEBB and John LOVE were the employers in June 1795 till 1810. So I'm wondering if Thomas WEBB was his father.

Can someone help please?

Dorset / Thomas Henry Shepherd or Sheppard
« on: Wednesday 18 April 12 07:26 BST (UK)  »
I have a Thomas Henry Sheppard, or Shepherd marrying May Tudgey in Pokesdown 9th May 1898. I'd like to find him, or his family, on a census but I don't seem able to. Can anyone help please?

May Tudgey came from Hallow, in Worcs. which seems a long way from Pokesdown.

Surrey / A school in Walton or Weybridge 1940s
« on: Thursday 08 March 12 01:02 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of a school – in Walton or Weybridge, I’m not sure where – for young children where the classroom had long benches for the children to sit in, like the pews in church? I can remember going to such a school, and not liking it, because I didn’t understand the maths being taught. I remember having to push past, and climb over, other children in the row to get to the aisle in order to take my work out to the teacher at the front.

This would be in the 1940s. It could have been a very small private school.

Buckinghamshire / WEBB family from High Wycombe
« on: Sunday 19 February 12 00:51 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone any information about the WEBB family of High Wycombe? I have a James WEBB in Send, in Surrey in 1841 with wife Ann and children Sarah (20), John  (15), George (12) Sophia (9) and James (10 months)

In the 1851 W. Surrey census it has James (aged 53) coming from High Wycombe.

And, I have been told the following, which had not been verified at the time of telling, that this James could be the one born 21 Mar 1795, son of William WEBB and Elizabeth PHARAOH. He was married about 1821 at Burnham, Bucks, and his wife was an Ann.

I'm interested in the family in general, but would especially like to know if they had Romany connections.

Thank you for any help.

Jamie

Worcestershire / William Siddons Young
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 01:09 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please help with this:
William Siddons Young was born in Calcutta, West Bengal in 1832. He died at Upton (Upton upon Severn?) in 1901.

What info can I find out about him? Should I contact the History Centre/Record Office? I'd really like to know the contents of his will. And I don't know the actual date of his death.

Thank you for any help,

Jamie
