The Common Room / One more surname needed for six gen chart (In Burton)
« on: Thursday 22 March 18 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
My six generation chart needs only one more surname (for the Mary below) to be complete.

I have :-
George Hyland b c1827 Staplehurst, Kent. Wife Ann Burton bap 24 June 1827 Maidstone, Kent.
Married 23 May 1847 Boughton Monchelsea, Kent.

Ann's father given as Thomas Burton, mother Mary (nee ?) on baptism record.

From 1861 census I have - (If I have the right one?)
Thomas Burton b c1789 St Dunstans, Middlesex.
Mary ? b c1800 Wadhurst, Sussex.

Cannot find then in the 1841 or 1851 census, nor can I find a marriage for Thomas and Mary.

As ussual, any help very much appreciated.

Surrey / Stephen Crane 1792 has grt grdparents named Streat on both sides
« on: Tuesday 27 February 18 19:53 GMT (UK)  »
Today's conundrum not so easy.
Stephen Crane 16 Sep 1792 Chobham, Surrey (my grt x 3) has a great grandmother on his father's side named Sarah Streat Feb 1678 Chobham, Surrey.
He also has a great grandfather on his mother's side named James Streat c 168? Chobham, Surrey.
At that time Chobham was a small village.
I have a feeling there could well be a link between the two Streats but I can't find it.
Any thoughts from you very clever lot.

I'm switching off now, so will be here tomorrow.

The Common Room / Sibthorpe Eliza & Rosina
« on: Tuesday 27 February 18 10:18 GMT (UK)  »
My wife's grt aunt Eliza Sibthorpe (1869 Romford) and grt grandmother Rosina Sibthorpe (1854 Romford) were sisters (stating the obvious). I have Eliza in the 71, 81 & 91 census still at family home, Gidea Hall Stables, Hare St, Romford. But then I lose her.
I have a marriage record which states - William Pomroy spouse Sibthorpe, other Rosina Sibthorpe dated 1917 1st quarter 4a 722 in Romford.
I cannot view the record, so not certain if the spouse is Eliza. Nor do I know where/when this William was born or indeed, what happened to him (see next para). WW1 ?
I also know (we have them on a captioned photo) that she later married a George Winn. Of him we know absolutely nothing other that he died before 1946. WW2 ? My wife actually lived with Eliza at Belvoir castle cottages for short period before Eliza died, she can't remember what year the death was (1945 - 1950 ?). We know Eliza was in Bottesford prior to that. We have references to Rose Cottage and/or Walnut Cottage but nothing positive. She came into a considerable amount of money around that time, so assume that George Winn had died and the cottage sold and she moved in with the family at Belvoir where wife's grandfather was the Duke's chauffeur.
Would greatly appreciate any input from anyone.
Many thanks,
Mike

Have just purchased the latest issue (7) of Discover Your Ancestors magazine at a cost of £7.99 which looks expensive. But included is six months free Gold membership of The Genealogist as well as some other useful freebies.
The magazine's very good as well. All in all, well worth having.

The Common Room / John Drake 1764 & Hannah Adkins 1766
« on: Tuesday 20 February 18 17:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have a tree on Family Search that someone has added parents for my grt grandfather x 4 John Drake c 1764.
I have John Drake c 1764 b Chillenden, Kent....Married Hannah Adkins (Atkins) on 30 Oct 1784 at Eythorne, Kent.............Ten children, all born in Eythorne.
Added to my tree.......
his father - John Drake b 1735 Maldon, Essex died 1804 Maldon, Essex
his mother - Sarah Farrer b 1740 Maldon, Essex died 1827 Maldon, Essex
Married 1764 in Maldon, Essex
children - John Drake b 1764 Chillenden, Kent
William Drake b 1766 Finsbury, London
Sarah Drake b 1769 Maldon, Essex
               Hannah Drake b 1772 - d 1772 Maldon, Essex
               Daniel Drake b 1776 - d 1776 Maldon, Essex
               Hannah Drake b 1779 - d 1779 Maldon, Essex
It appears to me that the added John Drake 1735 never left Maldon, Essex and that the first two children ie John 1764 & William 1766 do not belong with these parents.

Would very much appreciate any input anyone is able to give.

The Common Room / Guglielmo Biagi 1880 & Carolina Lemetti Irvine & Barga
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 20:34 GMT (UK)  »
Any Scottish/Italians that can help me out here.
My uncle Leonardo (Leo) Biagi & Rosa (Rose) Bechelli ran an ice cream parlour for many years in Irvine.
My father was Rodolfo Biagi (became Ralph Gordon).
His father - Guglielmo Giuseppe Biagi 22 Oct 1880 Barga. (later lived in Irvine, Ayr before returning to Barga) married Carolina Lemetti also from Barga.
I cannot find her father.
I believe Carolina's mother was Maria Corrieri? for whom I have no parents either.
I know I had a great uncle Giorgio Lemetti who owned the bar Ponye Di Campia in San Pietro en Campo.
I have Guglielmo's mother & father as Raffaello Biagi 1848 in San Pietro en Campo & Adele Pelegrini 1845 in Castelvecchio.
I have both of their fathers but no mothers.
All a bit hard to explain in a few sentences. But I would greatly appreciate any input at all.

The Common Room / William Vickers c 1823 Vauxhall/Lambeth
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Have come to a dead end with one ancestor/
William Vickers born c 1823 either Vauxhall/Lambeth/Wandsworth (he changes his mind in census, it may even be none of these)
I think married c 1851 Battersea.
Wife Eliza/Elizabeth born either Battersea or Collingbourne, Wiltshire. She also changes her mind.
Their children - Jane, Harriett, Ann, Julia (my grt gran), Amelia and George.
I have a possible mother for him as Susannah Vickers nee ?
Cannot find him in 1841, 1851 or 1861.
In 1871 he lived at 23 Ann Street, Battersea, Wandsworth.
In 1881 he lived at the same house but the street name changed to Linda Street.
In 1891 Eliza is a widow at the same address.
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.
