I've found a divorce record for a distant relative on Ancestry. I can save it to my tree and to my shoebox but can't seem to download to my computer.

Can anyone tell me how to do this or to download from my shoebox (which I don't tend to use normally).

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Is Ancestry DNA down?
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 17:10 BST (UK)  »
I've just been checking my Ancestry DNA and, although it shows the top info, when I click on show all matches or even the 4th cousins or closer, I get a blank page with just a line of general text. I can view Thrulines (on right)  and Ethnicity (on left} but not my matches.

I've checked on Firefox and Chrome and have logged out (which clears the cookies) and re-tried.  It was fine earlier today.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm trying to work out the maiden  surname of Eliza.  This is from a birth cert of 1868.

Any ideas, please?

As soon as I posted, I can see MacKay or MacKey!

Technical Help / Mircrosoft Office Click-to-Run Client
« on: Thursday 04 March 21 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me what Mircrosoft Office Click-to Run -Client is , please?  I was checking my security log and this showed a few times.
I  did a Google search and it seemed to be related to high CPU usage but it wasn't very clear.

We have Office 365.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Another of Adam's in laws
« on: Thursday 18 February 21 12:56 GMT (UK)  »
My relative, Adam Burgess, married a Castle Douglas  publican and blacksmith's daughter in the early 1830s.  This photo was e-mailed  to me with the  one of a woman that I put up yesterday. It was said that he was his father in law but I think it is most likely his brother in law, who followed in his father's footsteps.

It's in reasonable condition but I'd be grateful for a little more restoration and toning, please. I prefer it not to be coloured.

Many thanks.

The Common Room / FindMyPast film strips on census pages- help
« on: Wednesday 17 February 21 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
I'm not sure if this is new but I've only just had this come up on a census image. It's full of all sorts of slick tool icons and has a film strip across the bottom.  Thus only half the image can be seen.
Has anyone else had this view and how can I get it back to normal page view.please?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Adam Burgess's Mother in law
« on: Wednesday 17 February 21 14:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

As the board seems to have gone a bit quiet ~

I've just found this photo that was sent to me nearly 20 years ago. It's not all that clear but I don't have any other version. This is said to be  1st cousin 4x removed' s mother in law. Her husband was a blacksmith in Castle Douglas.

If you have time, I'd love some restoration and toning  but no colour.

Technical Help / .swx files - a safe way of opening please?
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 16:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

I'm going through some old family history folders and have stumbled upon a few very old  .swx files that I'd like to open. I've tried Adobe and MS Word but they won't play ball,  although a Google search suggested they might.

Could anyone suggest a safe way of opening them and converting them to a Word or simple text document, please. I don't want to download the other various apps that have come up.

Thanks ever so

Denbighshire / Denbighshire Parish Records and FindMyPast !!
« on: Friday 12 February 21 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
I've just had an e-mail from FindMyPast telling me that they have a new collection:

Denbighshire Parish Records.

They have had this record set for over 6 years as far as I can remember. I've been using them every week since they were introduced to look for my ancestors and their kin.  I did some checks via their link and there were red ticks on all my previous searches  ::)

Can anyone explain why FindMyPast are introducing them as 'new'. It's the same set as far as I can see!
