I have a baptism for a child called Elionor on the 4 January 1648/49 in Chelmarsh, Shropshire. The image is on FindMyPast at:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBPRS%2FSHROP%2FP57-A-1-1%2F113764&parentid=GBPRS%2FSHROP%2FBAP%2F986894

The entry reads:

Elionor reputed bastard of James Dovie and Margery Lawrence, by procurement of Frauncis Dovie, the reputed grandfather

What does "by procurement of Frauncis Dovie ..." mean?

Can't quite make out all of this, but I think it's a burial. The transcription just has 1610 Aug. 18 Thomas Dovy sep. "sep" I assume is short for sepultra/sepultrae.

Full image is on FindMyPast:

Shropshire / Quatford Parish registers
« on: Wednesday 07 February 24 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
I'm researching the Dovey family, and in particular the ancestors of John Dovey, born 22 October 1769 in Chelmarsh. So far I've gone back 7 generations from John to a Wyllam Dovey and his wife Jane. In the process, I have come across children and grandchildren of Wyllam born in Quatford. I can't help but notice that register images on FindMyPast seem to have entries crossed through in red, e.g. the one here:

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id=GBPRS/SHROP/P225-A-1-1/69988

I've attached a clip. The question is why are the entries crossed through? And a second question, are there any printed transcriptions of the Quatford registers available online? I've found Chelmarsh and Sidbury and some others, but not Quatford.

Worcestershire / Worcester County Asylum, Powick Hospital
« on: Wednesday 03 January 24 06:51 GMT (UK)  »
I have an entry for admission on 28 March 1881, and death of a patient on 22 December 1881, from Ancestry, for one Phebe Bache:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/9051/images/42477_1831101456_11584-00045?pId=113594

I have also discovered her case notes; they can be accessed from here:

https://medicalmuseum.org.uk/powick-patients

and following the link to search the database (uncomfortable reading, beware). At the end of the notes, her death is recorded, but I am unable to find a corresponding GRO index entry. Were deaths in the asylum recorded on the GRO, and if so, where is the entry? I've checked q4 1881 and q1 1882 without success. I'm also not quite sure what the last line says on the attached image.

The Common Room / 1885 map field names
« on: Thursday 14 December 23 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking at an 1885 25" OS map on the NLS site, and each field on the map is numbered. On an 1875 will I have a reference to a "patch of land at Homer in the parish of Much Wenlock which I call Derricutts patch." Any ideas as to how I can match Derricutts Patch with a specific field or fields?

The Common Room / FindMyPast civil birth searches
« on: Tuesday 21 November 23 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
I have just tried doing a civil bvirth search on FindMyPast, onlyt to find that the monter's maiden name is no longer shown, instead there is a link to find the mother's marriage which returns page after page of hits. This is a completely useless and wholly counter-productive change. Whoever thought this was a good idea, without trying to be unduly rude, has fewer brain cells than a blade of grass and clearly not someone who is a dedicated researcher.  >:( >:(   Has anyone else hit this issue?

Warwickshire / 1695 Burial
« on: Sunday 12 November 23 23:24 GMT (UK)  »
Richard Stanyard, aka Richard Stonyer, aka Richard Stanyer, was buried at Holy Trinity, Sutton Coldfield on the 9 April 1695. I've attached the PR entry, but according to the entry, where did he live?
