World War Two / Military Headstone
« on: Friday 30 September 22 22:58 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that my Husband's late Uncle was killed in Action whilst serving as a Gunner in the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1941. His burial site is mentioned on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site but he does not have a Military Headstone.  Is there any reason why he would not be entitled to one? Thanks for any information you can supply.

Breconshire Lookup Requests / Birth registration district
« on: Friday 07 January 22 16:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have eagerly downloaded the 1921 census for my Grandparents. My Grandmother gives her Birthplace as Upper Chapel Breconshire in 1894.  Could anyone please advise which district this would come under.  Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Parents of John Havard, Brecon area
« on: Monday 10 February 20 22:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, hoping someone may be able to trace the parents of John Havard born 1887.

He died 18/12/1959 age 72 in Llanfrynach, Brecon.
He was married aged 23 on 07/12/1910 in Brecon Registrar Office, his father is shown on the Marriage certificate as John Havard.
1911 Census shows his age as 23,birth place shown as Merthyr Cynog, living with his wife Emily in Llanfrynach.
1939 shows his date of birth as 02/05/1887.

I originally thought his birth was registered in Builth in 1886 11b page 91, parents John and Margaret (Nee Williams) but 1911 census shows they had 9 children and only 7 were still alive. I have found a burial for a John Havard age 21, buried 25/09/07 aged 21 in St Marys, Crickadarn, and Helena Maud Havard aged 4, so believe these could be the two deceased children.

I believe his birth should have been registered in Brecknock but have been unable to find any record in 1886/1888.
I would be grateful for any tips as I have hit a brick wall. Many thanks

Hi, can anyone help trace family history of Elizabeth Ann Powell. She was baptised on 07/05/1893 in Aberedw, her Mother was Eliza Powell, address given as Drovers Arms, Builth. Her birth was registered in Builth 11b page 69. Believe her Mother Eliza was baptised in 1865, parents Thomas and Ann Powell.
I would like to know if possible what happened to Elizabeth Ann from 1901 onwards. Many thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Parents of Elizabeth Ann powell

Hi, hoping someone will be able to help trace the parents of Elizabeth Ann Powell.  I know she was married in Llanfrynach Village in Brecon on 06/08/1918 to Frederick William Shayler. Marriage certificate shows her age as 23, address as Llanfrynach Village, Father deceased but no name given.  Witness' on marriage certificate are different to the Bride and Groom.   She passed away on 06/06/1953 in Neath, Death certificate shows age as 60.  According to Find My Past 1939 census shows her date of birth as 01/09/1893.  I know she resided in Swansea during the 1920s then later moved to Neath in 1930s. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find her on 1901 or 1911 census with any certainty.

I would also like to trace where she was buried together with her husband who died in 1957.  I have contacted Neath and Swansea Estates Department, Bridgend CC and also Llanfrynach Church but to no avail. Cremations did not commence in Margam until 1969.

I would be grateful for any assistance as I have been researching for sometime but have hit a brick wall. Many thanks.
