Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Jane TUTTON nee RICHARDSON

I am attaching photograph of Jane wife of William Tutton (see previous post).  She was born in Nottingham in about 1832 and died in Shrewsbury in about 1907.

The reverse of the image has a handwritten name of J Lancaster, Birkenhead who is presumably the photographer and is numbered with a small sticker as 7122.  William's is numbered sequentially with the same style of sticker as 7121 but is a different photographer? Roger

Nottinghamshire / Jane TUTTON nee RICHARDSON
« on: Tuesday 05 June 18 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Jane is my great-grandmother.  According to census returns she was born in Nottingham in about 1832 and by 1841 is living in Stockport.  I cannot trace her in the 1851 Census.  She marries Alfred Tutton in the Wycliffe Chapel Stockport on 26 Sep 1853.  She dies in Shrewsbury in about 1907.

Her marriage cert gives her father as John Richardson deceased and his occupation as Cutler or Cutter (his forename was later confirmed by Stockport Register Office as Joseph).  The witnesses are Thomas Cocker and Rachel Shore.

I believe her mother is Sarah Betty Howe who possibly marries Joseph Richardson in Manchester Cathedral in Jul 1818 and secondly James Shore.  Rachel Shore the above witness is her half sister and she later marries Thomas Cocker the other witness.

My problem is that I cannot find (despite diligent efforts) the baptism of Jane Richardson nor information about her father.  Perhaps someone with knowledge of Nottinghamshire can help.

One other possibly salient fact is that Sarah Betty Howe's mother could be Patience Rainford born in Dunham on Trent Notts in about 1769.

Thanks R

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Alfred TUTTON

This is a follow up to my previous "How best to scan small old photographs?" and my thanks to all of those who posted their helpful replies.

I have now scanned (after a lot of trial and error and not a little mild cursing!) and am attaching a photograph of my great-grandfather Alfred Tutton (1828-1903) who lived in Shrewsbury from about 1871 to his death in 1903.  The reverse of the image gives the photographer as J Groom of Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury.

I have a similar photo of his wife and will post this later.

I have 2 photos measuring about 2.5 inches width and 3.5 inches height.  They are of my great grand parents who both died in the mid 1900s and are in sepia (?) tone.

How should I scan them to optimise restoration? R

I am attaching photo of the above.

He was born in 1830 in Birmingham, England.  He emigrated to the USA and died in Henderson, Vance, North Carolina, USA in 1918.

I don't know when he emigrated or where or when the photograph was taken but he appears in the 1880 US Census in Henderson.  I don't have the original so don't know if anything is on the reverse.

Thanks R

I am attaching photo taken with an iPad from an original that is too big to scan.  I am hoping for an enhanced image.

WC is my 2nd Great Grandfather.  There is nothing useful on the reverse and WC was born in 1800 and died in 1884 so I guess the photo was taken later in his life.

I have also just posted separately an image of his second wife Miriam Sarah Chavasse nee Wyld.
