Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / What does common ancestor mean
« on: Sunday 21 February 21 13:26 GMT (UK)  »
I just got my dna results back and a bit confused as my mums 1st cousin who I know and has also had her dna done is not shown as a common ancestor wth me but a 1st or 2nd cousin. Her father was my grandfathers brother so not sure why that wouldnt be a direct ancestor.

There is also a 2nd or 3rd cousin that we cant find any direct links to and has read both our messages but not replied.  How could they be so closely related but noone knows who they are.

Hope you can help me.

Perthshire / Duncan ferguson st fillans
« on: Friday 22 May 20 13:40 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if someone could help me confirm a few things about the ferguson and McGregor families in st fillans.

My 3rd great grandmother Janet ferguson was born in 1798 in st fillans and died in Glasgow in 1880.  Her death certificate had duncan ferguson, woodcutter and catherine mcgregor down as her parents.

I havent been able to find the wedding of her parents on scotlands people.

The closest I can get for births for Janet Ferguson born 1798 st fillans parents duncan ferguson and catherine dochart but again dont want to assume this is her parents.

Just wondering if anyone could help me out wth some other information.

« on: Tuesday 14 January 20 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather was a pen pal of this girl writing to her from scotland.  She sadly died in 1938 and her parents sent him a picture of her and a dried flower from her grave.
Her mothers name was vanna graach and their address was skibbussing 171 odense.  Her friends were johanna Ellen rita and Greta.

Would be nice to share some of these and to also share ingers memory and that of the affection her mother had for my grandfather and his family.

Berwickshire / Robert Edgar and Margaret rae marriage
« on: Wednesday 02 January 19 11:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am going back through my records and looking at my husbands 3rd great grandmother ages Edgar born in 1819 in Oldhamstocks.  On her death certificate her parents are Robert Edgar and Margaret rae but I can't find marriage for them at all on Scotland people.

They seem to have lots of children from 1792 to 1816 and these are recorded in Scotland people but maybe they didn't marry.

Wonder if anyone has any info on them.  I know there are Edgars and raes around Coldingham still today
