Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Leicester Burial 1954
« on: Monday 25 April 16 22:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello... :)

I hoping someone may be able to help me with a burial please. I have no idea where in Leicester it might be.  :-\

The lady I am searching for is Bessie BAXTER and she died in Leicester Royal Infirmary in March 1954, her address at the time of her death was Bradston Rd, Leicester. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she can be found and that she has other members of her family with her.

Thankyou

Dizzifish.

Hello....  :)

I am hoping someone will be able to help shed some light on this for me please.

It was just by chance that I came across this newspaper article, and it has made me curious, as I can't find any marriage under either couples names in 1854, on FreeBMD or elsewhere.

Leicester Chronicle - 25 February 1854
On the 14th inst, at St Margaret's, Mr Wm. EDGSON, miller and baker, of Langham, to Mary Ann, youngest daughter of Mr Chas. ROWELL, of Ridlington.

We know that William Edgson married in 1857 and again in 1870 but nothing about the marriage in 1854.
I am wondering if I am correct in assuming they married at St Margaret's, Leicester?

Thankyou

Here is a link for Archdeaconry Wills for the Deaneries of - Retford, Newark, Nottingham & Bingham.

https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE1987568&from=fhd

They are actual images of Wills & Admons - You can view online or even better, download the PDF....

As there are 527 pages which equates to about 175 individual Wills & Admons and no index, it is a bit of a trawl to find anything.

I did start to make notes of ones I might be interested in , so I could refer back to them any time.
Then decided to go the whole hog....... so, I have attached a finding aid - hopefully I haven't made any whopping mistakes!

Covers from about 1846 to 1858..... earliest death of names mentioned, about 1811.

Places mentioned re the Testators abode=
Averham/ Balderton /Barnby in the Willows/ Besthorpe/ Clifton/ Coddington/ Collingham  North & South  / Eakring / Elston / East Stoke / Farndon / Girton/  Gonalston / Hawton / Kelham / Kneesall / Laxton /  Maplebeck / NEWARK upon Trent / Rolleston / South Scarle / Sutton upon Trent / Syerston / Tuxford / Weston / Worksop

Nottinghamshire / Notts FHS burial index check please
« on: Sunday 24 February 13 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all..... :)

I do own a copy of the Notts FHS burial index but I was wondering if someone would mind checking their copy and letting me know how many burials show for Sutton in Ashfield in 1843? I am sure something cannot be right?

I had been hoping to find Gertrude Ellis buried at Sutton who died in 1843.

Thanks

Sheila.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Baptism for Straw - maybe Wheatly or Rothwell?
« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 16:48 BST (UK)  »
Please could someone help me with a William Straw who on the 51,61 & 1871 gives his county of birth as Northamptonshire and was an earthenware pot maker born about 1795........ our Straw family from Nottinghamshire were also pot makers but can't see any evidence that they spent any time in Northamptonshire.

The Wills that I have don't shed any light and I have always thought even if William was born in Northamptonshire he is likely to be the one baptised at Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire in 1795....... if he is who I think he is, then his mother was Phebe Pain born abt 1775+/-, I haven't found a baptism for her in Nottinghamshire..... perhaps she is the Northamptonshire link and maybe went home to her parents for the birth?

I know very little about the parishes in Northamptonshire so I hope someone can help....... :)

The question is; are there any Straw baptisms showing for any of these parishes? and as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to be a surname that crops up in Northamptonshire?

1841 implies he was born in Nottinghamshire
1851 - HO107/2134/239 Page23  - born Wheatly, Northamptonshire
1861 - RG09 /2471/28/Page 22 - born Wheatly, Northamptonshire
1871 - RG10 /3469/20/Page6 - born Rothwell? or Northwell ?, Northamptonshire

Thanks

Sheila.
