Travelling People / Nelson / Wilsher Family
« on: Monday 09 March 20 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
So in the two census, we have Wilsher & Nelson families

Lotis Nelson nee Wilsher being the child of William Wilsher & Lidia Willshaw nee Jones, camping in tents, fast forward 50 years and we have the grand child of William & Lidia, being Henry Wilsher with child Joseph, camping in caravans along side his 1st cousin 1xremoved Alexandra Nelson, Alexandra being the child of Walter Nelson & Lotis Nelson nee Wilsher.

I have seen on marriage certificate that Alexandra Nelson states he is a showman, out of interest are there many different trees of the Nelson family or are they all interlinked?

I seen that there were other showmen of Nelson down south.

« on: Friday 24 May 19 18:07 BST (UK)  »
I have a question for people in the know...

A camp site has started to interest me...
I wondered if any one knows of the history of it.

Date 1900 -/+ 10 years, area Nottingham, name Smiths field meadow road?

I have censuses of great uncles and aunties being there in caravans, and now have the name turn up on a birth certificate for a cousin. I would love to hear about this place and its history.

Travelling People / Shortland...
« on: Monday 05 November 18 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
Some many have seen my Joseph Wilsher 1907 abt posts...

So the other day I started talking to a cousin on my grandmother's Shortland side, who married my Joseph Henry Wilsher 1929.

I started talking about traceing traveler roots, he replied "that's right we have Romani in the family". He went on to say that the connection was on my Shortland blood line...

I spend a little time on Ancestry mapping out a tree, there seems to be direct lines of Shortland, Hall, Bartlett(seems to be a Bartlett marriage with a Bartlett). Indirect lines of Hughes, Cox.

Could any of these names be Romani lines? My cousin seemed so sure I thought I'd asked on here.

Travelling People / Wilsher blood line, Nottingham, Joseph Wilsher
« on: Monday 30 July 18 16:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have just started researching my family tree. My Granfather Joseph Henry Wilsher was born 1929 in Nottingham. His father was meant to be also called Joseph Wilsher, who lived and died in Nottingham. The story told to my dad by Joseph Wilsher(Joseph Henry Wilsher dad), was my family were hawkers and before that we were gypsies. My dad on a visit to Nottingham was shown a photo of a group of my ancestors next to a wooding horse drawn carriage when he was a kid.

The problem I have is my granddad left Nottingham in his teens because he joined the army, he then settled southwest UK. Other then this small bit of information, I have extremely little to go on, has any one come a cross much information with this family in Nottingham, or what is the best way to look in to this subject?

I have ordered my Grandads birth certificate and waiting for that at the moment.
