Family History Beginners Board / Undiscovered romanys in my family tree
« on: Monday 10 May 21 14:16 BST (UK)  »
I took a DNA test and was connected with a 3rd cousin through our Irish DNA  I'd never heard of checking through the predicted relationship and the trees and the GGG grandmother were predicted to be descended I found it quite correct but absolutely stunning as I'd never researched that side of my tree could this be true?

Family History Beginners Board / romany dna shared ancestor on tree
« on: Thursday 30 April 20 00:07 BST (UK)  »
having recently done my dna with my heritage it showed a lot of shared matches over 200 with a medium confidence 3rd cousin. The shared ancestor chart showed our 3rd cousin relationship would work back to a ggg grandparent that 3rd cousin and myself and all our dna matches shared.  I knew of no actual romany ancestors on my recorded family trees but one name on my tree perfectly matched the common ancestor my 3rd cousin and I shared a ggg grandparent expect my ancestor was a 5th great grandparent and hers was a 4th a generation ahead. As I said I knew the name on the tree and it matched but as my ancestor was born around 1720 I never managed to find a birthplace just a Bermondsey marriage. The people on my 3rd cousins tree are descended from romany gypsies its marked on the census on theyre trees as living in tents or a caravan they were variously horse dealer, hawkers, and one died on the common the other in the new forest  I couldn't quite believe it but in dna terms we shared irish and Balkan a bit of Baltic and a bit greek and Italian dna am I really related to the dna matches via shared ancestor on both our trees, I am puzzled ive done my geneology for nearly 10 years and knew of no romany ancestors

Im tracing my great aunt Emma Knight born 1834 in Swineshead Lincs and her daughter Emma Jane Knight born in Sleaford Lincs 1851
I have traced the birth records for both of them but on each there is no father's name recorded on either and the older mother Emma is marked as unmarried by the census returns for 1851 1871 when she worked at Belvoir castle as a ladies maid then in 1881 when she worked as a ladies maid in Knipton Lodge Leicester birth place Swineshead lincs aged 42 unmarried  along with her daughter Emma Jane who who was one of two nurses there recorded as 29 a Nurse unmarried birth place Sleaford Lincs ???
in 1901 Emma Jane Knight the younger was a nurse in no 14 Belgrave Square London single aged 44 born in Sleaford Lincs
The last census that records them both working together as general servants is in 1911 at Swaylands House Penshurst Kent, older Emma Knight is 77 and younger Emma Jane Knight is 58

i have traced a death record for the older Emma Knight for Boston Lincs 1917 when she was 82
it may be a workhouse death
The other Emma Jane i have no death record for -were they cousins or mother and daughter as they worked everywhere together. :-\
