The Common Room / marriage certificate of CAWKWELL and ROBINSON
« on: Friday 02 February 07 19:36 GMT (UK)  »
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP: IVE HIT A BRICK WALL!
I have a marrage certificate which gives the following details:
date: 26 July 1841; Doncaster parish church, county of York:
Thomas CAWKWELL, widower, occupation painter, resides Fishergate, father Thomas CAWKWELL, mariner;
marries:
Jane ROBINSON, spinster, resides Fishergate, father William ROBINSON, joiner.
where their age should be written, both only have "of full age" written in this box- very helpful! For some reason, even though a census had only just been taken, I cant find ANY of them on the 1841 census!
even on the 1851 census, I can only find Jane- and it by no means definitely the right Jane- she is shown as Jane CAWKWELL married to a Bartholemew Steinfield, residing in Sheffield. The only reason I think this is the right Jane is because I know she had a daughter name Sarah, born 1842.
(I have Sarah's marriage birth certificate which shows her parents to be Thomas and Jane, born Gainsborough, Linc's)
PLEASE HELP!

One Name Studies: A to G / GREEN family from Middlesex- help!
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
I would guess that tracing my ancestors has been a lot easier for me than most- I have been fortunate that almost all had either a less common surnames, or lived in a small village/town. All that changed when I came up against the GREEN family who originated from Middlesex/Bucks! I would really appretiate some help: this is what I know:

1. My great grandmother Mary GREEN was born 1862; the first child of: Henry GREEN & Eliza JANES; her birth certificate showed they resided in Temple Fortune area of Hendon, Middlesex; and Henry was employed as a servant.
2. Not long after they moved to Billesdon, Leicestershire. However, Henry died just before the 1871 census, aged 38. The same census shows Eliza a widow, born Leighton Buzzard, Beds; living in Billesdon; with their children. Because I have'nt found Henry on a census, I do not know his place of birth.
3. Henry & Eliza's marraige certificate dated 29 Dec 1861 shows married in Bletchley, nr Milyon Keynes, Bucks; Henry's father shown as Thomas Green, employed coachman.
Henry is aged 28 and Eliza aged 26; both residing in Bletchley.

Whilst this information has enabled me to trace back the JANES family line, I am completely stuck on the GREEN line. I cannot find Henry or Thomas on the 1841/51/61 census that live together, so theres no way I can know if they are the right GREEN. Anyone any tips on where to look next!

One Name Studies: A to G / BRIGDENS from Kent
« on: Friday 17 February 06 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
William James BRIGDEN was born in Wrotham, Kent, in 1836; his wife Mary was born in Knockholt, Kent, in 1831.
Their home was in Sittingbourne, Kent; William was employed as a blacksmith; they had ten children named:
Henry, Edwin, George, Ellen, Mauria, Frederick, Clara, Edith, Maurice and Sidney.
Despite much research, I have been unable to trace William and Mary's marriage record, which will idenitfy Mary's maiden name. I would be extremely grateful to hear from anyone who may be able to help me with this enquiry!
