Cork / St Mary's Cemetery, Rossmore lookup request
« on: Friday 09 November 18 17:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Trying to track down the headstone of a James Jeremiah O'Donovan, buried in the above cemetery in 1962. He was the parish priest in Kilmeen from 1945 to 1962 (http://corkandross.org/priests/very-rev-james-odonovan-pp/). Various things point to him being the son of my great grandparents, but I can find no records of his existence in census records or other information I have. There is a son, Simon James, who I think may be the same person. Simon is referred to in my grandfather's (his brother's) diary, and in particular there was an entry stating he'd changed his mind about becoming a priest. I'm wondering if he changed his mind again. I'm hoping the headstone mighty make some reference to his parents/family, or help in some other way. Would it make sense for someone christened Simon James to take the name James Jeremiah when becoming a priest? Annoyingly, I was over there myself a couple of months back and could have checked if I'd realised, and it won't be until next year that I'll get another chance

Thanks,
Kevin

Lancashire / Ford Cemetry, Liverpool - headstone question
« on: Saturday 29 September 18 11:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Originally posted this in a different topic, and it was suggested I repost it here - apologies if you've seen it twice!

Just been to Ford Cemetery to look for a plot (M135). Found the location, but it's part of a square area in one corner of the M section where the headstones are all missing. It doesn't seem likely the way the numbering is laid out here that these would all have been buried without headstones, so just wondering if anyone might know the history of this part of the cemetery? Looks like maybe 15 plots from the high end of each of the first 5 rows are missing. You can feel stone just under the grass, and scuffing a way bit you can see what might have been the base of a row of headstones where you'd have expected the headstones to be

Thanks,
kevin
